Trump’s FBI Nominee Kash Patel Disapproves Pardons to Rioters

New Delhi, January 31: The FBI Director Nominee, Kash Patel, told the Congress hearing that he would stand for independence of the investigative agency. Patel asserted that he doesn’t favour pardon to those who break laws.
In the Congressional hearing, Patel said that he has been subjected to several conspiracy theories. He assured the Congress that if he were to be confirmed as the FBI Director, he would protect the independence of the agency and not allow its political use.
Patel introduced his Indian parents before the Congressional hearing. He concluded introduction by saying ‘Jai Krishna’.

Trump’s key aide also claimed that he had been subjected to racism. He said that he faced personal threats after he brought facts in the public about the January 6 Capitol Hill riot.
“I have always rejected any violence against law enforcement. I do not agree with the commutation of any sentence of any individual who committed violence against law enforcement,” Patel told Senator Adam Schiff.
Patel was asked to look into the “eyes of the officials who faced the Capitol riot”. “Kash Patel raised money for January 6 insurrectionists who attacked law enforcement. I asked him to look those officers in the eye and tell them he was proud of what he did. He couldn’t see,” Schiff posted in a comment on X after the Congressional hearing.
Patel’s comments on pardoning is in contrast to Trump decision to issue around 1,500 pardons related to the Capitol riot. Trump pardoned even those who had already been convicted.
“The only thing that will matter if confirmed is a de-weaponized, depoliticized system of law enforcement, completely devoted to rigorous obedience to the Constitution and a singular standard of justice,” Patel told the Congressional hearing on Thursday.
Patel and Trump’s another controversial pick for the post of the director of the national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard had their Congressional hearings on Thursday.
Patel told Congress that, if confirmed, he would uphold the FBI’s independence and avoid politically motivated investigations. “There will be no politicization at the FBI. There will be no retributive actions taken by the FBI should I be confirmed as the director,” Patel told Democratic Senator Chris Coons.
He also did not commit to act against his predecessor, Christopher Wray. Patel said that the FBI has too many works to take care of.
Patel came for praise from a section of Congress lawmakers. Senator Mike Lee posted on X, saying: “Every FBI Director I’ve questioned has lied to me. Patel told the truth.”
