New Delhi, April 2: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh got bail on Tuesday. Six months after he was arrested, the Supreme Court granted bail to Singh. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not object to the bail plea of Singh.
The AAP leader will be free to carry out political activities. He will, however, not comment on the ongoing probe in the Delhi Excise scam. The ED had arrested him in October last year. Singh was arrested in the capacity of an AAP leader. Singh is the Rajya Sabha MP of the AAP. He is one among the senior leaders of the AAP.
The ED’s no objection to the bail plea of Singh is raising eyebrows in the political corridors. Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and his ex-Cabinet colleague Satyender Jain are still in judicial custody. The ED last month also arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Indian Express in a report on Tuesday claimed that the Election Commission is discussing the allegations of the Opposition that it is not able to ensure a level playing field. The Congress in a press conference alleged that the institutions are not able to ensure a level playing field in the Lok Sabha elections.
There are suggestions that the government is in a spot amid growing international attention to arrest of the Opposition leaders ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The AAP had also accused that Kejriwal was arrested as a part of political conspiracy.
During the day, the AAP legislators held a meeting with Sunita Kejriwal. The AAP MLAs insisted that Kejriwal should remain the chief minister.

There are growing concerns within the AAP that the BJP-led Central government may dismiss the city government. The alibi, they claim, could be a collapse in governance with the chief minister being in jail.
With Singh now set to come out of jail, the AAP leaders may regroup under his leadership for the Lok Sabha elections. Also, the AAP leaders have now become hopeful that even Kejriwal may get bail sooner. They claim that the arrest of Kejriwal has boomeranged on the ruling BJP.
With the ED not opposing the bail plea of Singh, the AAP leaders are claiming that the BJP is now on the backfoot. The ruling party in the national capital hopes to cash in on ‘sympathy’ wave in the Lok Sabha elections.
Political observers also claim that Singh was allowed to take oath as a Rajya Sabha MP after he was stopped on the first occasion. It is also being said that Singh is no more a fire-brand AAP leader.
