New Delhi, May 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Haryana is setting eye on the Assembly election in the state next year by getting ready with policy response to Congress’ push for cash dole outs in the poll bound states. Haryana is set to become the first state in the country to create a new class of ration beneficiary in a bid of the government to further expand the number of beneficiaries.
“Haryana government will soon unveil a new initiative under which the beneficiaries and the state will equally share the cost of the ration per month. Roughly, Rs 3,000 per month per family will be the cost to extend the same benefits of free foodgrains currently availed by the below poverty line (BPL) card holders,” said Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during an interaction with a select few journalists.
The chief minister said that the state government and each family can contribute Rs 1500 each for the new initiative. Khattar also unveiled an initiative under which the state government is facilitating the industries in Haryana source unskilled and semi-skilled employees.
On the inaugural evening, the state government transferred a data base of about 12000 candidates against the demand for over 6000 employees. “Haryana has been divided under categories of A, B, C and D for industrial purposes. Industries who are giving employments in the Group D categories are being given Rs 4,000 per month incentive for first seven years,” added Khattar.
The chief minister said that the state will add another seven to eight lakh new beneficiaries in the contributory foodgrain scheme. Currently, there are 31.50 lakh beneficiaries under the free foodgrains scheme in Haryana.
“Under the new category of contributory scheme for foodgrains, the state government will target families earning Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs three lakh annually,” added Khattar. Incidentally, Haryana government counts people below the BPL with income of Rs 1.80 lakh per annum.
There are seven lakh families under the Antyodya Anna Yojna in Haryana. The state government also mandates the industries to source 75 per cent of unskilled workers from Haryana only.
