Gruesome Glaspura

The Pioneer and other daily have come down heavily against the state of apathy amounting to abandoning governance task which led to deaths of 11, including three children in Glaspura, Ludhiana, following unchecked discharge of toxic chemicals from dye industries in drains. The daily wondered the extent of greasy governance, as the Central Pollution Board and the local social activists for years had been warning the government of toxic discharges being released in the drains.

The Noida-based daily also recalled the lament of the National Green Tribunal AK Goel who had said that while the Centre had released Rs 25000 crore for cleaning Ganga, the state governments had not taken any measures to stop the dirt and filth along with chemicals flowing into the river that “washes sins of all”. The daily also quoted ‘The Energy Research Institute’ to say that sources of toxic metals in Yamuna in Delhi were manmade.

It goes without saying that the cost of apathy of the upright people in staying away from administration is that the thugs climb the ladder to sit on thrones. Eventually, the people only have to pay the cost, and that too dearly.

Conditional Laws

The Telegraph and The Asian Age in their lead Editorials have decried the state of wrestlers of international acclaims holding out at the Jantar Mantar with their allegations of sexual exploitations in the federation headed by the BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. The daily have lamented that the police took note of serious allegations, including of a minor being sexually assaulted, only after the intervention of the Supreme Court.

The Telegraph has said that it’s turning out to be a battle, with Orwellian description stat sports is a battle minus shooting, between an insensitive government and women wrestlers who are seeking justice. The Kolkata-based daily said that true nationalism cannot be divorced from quest of justice.

On an allegation of sexual assault, an Editor of fame spent several months in jail, and allegations by wrestlers are being dragged into political conspiracy and Uttar Pradesh versus Haryana battle to cast aspersions on characters of women Olympians. This has to be a national disgrace.

IT Slowdown

The IT sector is in the midst of a certain slowdown as the American firms prune their costs, and the Economic Times in its Editorial has said that the Indian IT firms will need to quickly adjust to the deployment of artificial intelligence. The business daily also noted that the cloud business which drove the IT firms is now contracting.

It stated that the muted quarterly results of the IT firms mirror the hardships faced by the sector. The daily also stated that the financial downturn on the back of an accelerated rate hikes in the US and Europe is also dampening the outlook of the Indian IT sector.

The Indian IT sector is now off highs following extraordinary business explosion after the Covid-19 pandemic set in, and the sector should focus to reinvent and innovate.
