New Delhi, December 1: The US President-elect Donald Trump by nominating Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel has stunned Democrats and the world. Trump-baiters claim that the US President-elect made the “most dangerous choice”. Yet, his supporters hailed decision for proof that Trump will herald transparency.
Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe told US broadcasters that “Kash Patel as FBI Director would disrupt, dismantle, and distract the agency”. He referred to the past utterances of Patel, including Trump choice saying that he would turn the headquarters into a museum. McCabe had been accused by critics of signing warrants for surveillance of Trump adviser Carter Page.
“The most dangerous nominee we’ve seen yet to our democracy,” Tim Miller, a broadcaster, told MSNBC on Trump nominating Patel for the post of the FBI Director. Miller said that the “decision is most dangerous for democracy”.
Yet, there is jubilation in the ranks of the Republican over the nomination of Patel to head the FBI. Patel has vowed to end the system of keeping documents secret by advocating declassification. He has also built an image of a champion of transparency.
“By nominating Kash Patel as the next FBI director, Trump has sought to initiate cleansing of an agency that is part of the American ‘deep state’,” said Brahma Chellaney in a post on X.
Patel is an author of the book ‘Government Gangsters’. He has gone on a trail to document the murky affairs of the ‘deep state’ in the book, accusing the federal agencies of working at the behest of political patrons. Patel even accused that the FBI officials had been involved in corruption and cover ups and also launching targeted actions against political rivals.
Patel had also filed a major lawsuit against former FBI director Chris Wray. Patel had accused the FBI of carrying out a witch hunt against Trump at the behest of the incumbent US President Joe Biden.
Trump credited Patel of busting the claims of the Democrats that the US President-elect has been a pal of Russian President Vladimir Putin. On the campaign trails, Democrats had accused Trump of being in connivance with Putin.
“Under the present director, FBI has sheltered and shielded Khalistan militants that have been making terrorist threats against India,” added Chellaney. Trump’s nomination of Patel for the top job at the FBI is trending in India on the social media platforms.
A section of the Indian diplomats claimed that the ‘Deep State’ with sponsors in the US had overthrown the Sheikh Hasina-led regime in Bangladesh to instal an Islamist dispensation in her place. Trump had accused the Biden administration of being mum on increasing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
