Ranchi, December 9: The Congress had replaced Dipika Pandey Singh as the candidate of the party for the Godda Lok Sabha seat in Jharkhand in the general elections. “Like this, I can sacrifice many seats for Rahul Gandhi,” reads the pinned post of Deepika Pandey Singh on X.
Within six months of facing an apparent embarrassment of being replaced as the candidate of the Godda Lok Sabha seat, Deepika Pandey Singh is now hogging the limelight in Jharkhand. She is among the four ministers in the Jharkhand Cabinet from the Congress ranks.
Dipika Pandey Singh has beaten several of senior party leaders from among the 16 legislators of the Congress to bag the ministerial berth. Deepika Pandey Singh has been allocated coveted portfolio of the Ministry of Health.
Dipika Pandey Singh had made her debut in the Jharkhand government six months ago. Once more, the Congress backed her with a Cabinet berth.
“Dipika Pandey Singh is now very well-known in Jharkhand politics. As a second term MLA, she comes from an established political family. Her mother Pratibha Pandey was also a Congress leader while also being the Jharkhand state president of Mahila Congress,’ said a senior state unit leader of the Congress.
Her father-in-law is Avadh Bihari Singh, who was a four-time MLA from Mahagama Assembly seat Bihar and Jharkhand were one state. He was the Rural Development Minister in the Bihar government.
She has also been the national secretary of the Youth Congress and was also placed in the national committee of the Youth Congress. “She had been vocal about her views and doesn’t shy away from criticizing own government on matters that she thinks is not in the interest of the people,” said a senior Congress functionary.
Pradeep Yadav lost the Lok Sabha elections from the Godda parliamentary seat to Nishikant Dubey of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). But he got a lead in the Mahagama Assembly seat over Dubey. Dipika Pandey Singh represents the Mahagama Assembly seat, which she won again in the state polls.
“When the Hemant Soren cabinet was being expanded and two ministers were inducted in it, Dipika Pandey Singh and Irfan Ansari found their opportunities. Both are back again as ministers in the Hemant Soren government,” added the Congress functionary.
Godda district in Jharkhand now has three representations in the Jharkhand government. Chief Minister has won from the Barhet Assembly seat which has some parts in the Godda district. Sanjay Prasad Yadav, who has become a minister, from the RJD quota, is also an MLA from Godda.
Banna Gupta was the Health Minister earlier in Jharkhand. But he lost the elections to Saryu Roy of the JD (U) from the Jamshedpur East Assembly seat.
Dipika Pandey Singh is a graduate in Biology while also holding an MBA degree from the prestigious XISS, Ranchi. She also holds a law degree.
