New Delhi, May 1: A day after AstraZeneca admitted in UK courts that the Covid-19 vaccine, Covishield, caused rare side effects, the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav asserted that the “people and the law will never forgive” those who approved the jabs. Yadav sought judicial probe into the approval for the vaccine rollouts.
“Around 80 crore Indians were given the Covishield vaccines, about which the company that made its original formula has said that it can cause a risk of heart attack,” said Yadav in a post on the social media platform X, formerly twitter. The SP chief demanded a judicial probe.

The SP chief said that the “public will never forgive those who play with people’s lives. Allowing such lethal medicines is equivalent to a conspiracy to murder someone and all those responsible for this should be prosecuted criminally.”
Yadav further accused that the “ruling party gambled the lives of the people by collecting political donations from the vaccine manufacturing company. Neither the law nor the people will ever forgive them. There should be a judicial inquiry at the highest level in this matter.”
The Economic Times in a report has said that relatives of a woman who had died after taking the Covishield vaccine will file court case against the Pune-based firm, Serum Institute. India had approved two Covid-19 vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Patrika quoted Dr. Shashimohan Sharma, a cardiologist of Jaipur SMS Hospital, saying that crores of people in Rajasthan were given doses of Covishield but no side effects were seen in the recipients.
“Side effects appear within a short span of time after the first dose is administered. It has been proven in many studies that Covid infection increases the risk of blood clot formation,” Dr Sharma was quoted by the Hindi daily. He added that it “is not right to link the shock to vaccination itself. In our study also, Delta variant has been shown to be a major cause of BP and heart disease.”
