New Delhi, January 1: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has blowed the poll bugle with the onset of the newyear. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Mayawat launched scathing attacks on the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. The BSP chief hit out at the Modi government with her claims of rampant unemployment in the country.
The BSP chief in a series of posts on the social media platform X questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre on the campaign of the ‘Viksit Bharat (developed India)’. She charged that the campaign is meaningless when the people don’t have money in their pockets. Mayawati also charged that the per capita income in the country remains abysmal which exposes the claims of the ‘viksit bharat’.
Mayawati said, “From this New Year, the government should discharge its true patriotism and rajdharma by ensuring only ’employment guarantee’, because other government guarantees have proved to be more of deceitful politics of narrow nationalism, due to which the lives of about 100 crore people are continuously becoming poor, He remains backward, oppressed and destitute.”
The BSP chief’s sharp criticism of the Modi government has come at a time when the BJP has gone in an overdrive to build the election momentum with ‘Viksit Bharat’ outreach. The ministers, MPs, and MLAs are taking out ‘Viksit Bharat’ yatra in all parts of the country. The BJP seems eying the aspirational vote base in the country by amplifying that India under the leadership of PM Modi is on course to become a developed nation by 2047 when India will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Independence.
Mayawati said, “If there is a modest per capita income in the country, that is, if there is no money in people’s pockets for spending, then what use is of the people boasting about ‘development’? Also, how is ‘developed India’ possible with a huge army of unemployed? According to the huge population of the country, the employment opportunities are abysmal.”
The BSP appears clearly positioning for the Lok Sabha elections by maintaining an equal distance from both the BJP and the Opposition block, the Indian National Developmental and Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). Mayawati was being accused by a section of the Opposition for being soft on the Modi government and the BJP. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had also reportedly accused the BSP of being soft on the BJP. It may be recalled that Mayawati had issued a statement ahead of the Assembly elections in five states to condemn the alleged conspiracies hatched by the Congress against the BSP.
Mayawati said, “Overall, the development of crores of poor people is affected due to the ill effects of the long-running casteist, arrogant and non-inclusive government of first Congress and now BJP. Therefore, now in this parliamentary election year, we make a strong appeal to the people to form a pro-people government dedicated to the public interest and welfare of the Bahujans.
This is again seen by political observers as Mayawati’s careful planning to work on the Dalit and Muslim combination in UP as well as her social engineering with the extremely backward castes. It is noteworthy that Mayawati has a hold on 18 percent Dalit vote base and Muslims in western Uttar Pradesh traditionally see BSP as an alternative to BJP. Samajwadi Party and Congress have seen a decline in their vote base in western UP.
