Assembly Election: Congress Singes Kejriwal’s Delhi Education Model

By Amit Kumar

New Delhi, February 2: With just three days to go for the Delhi elections, the Congress on Sunday launched a frontal attack on Arvind Kejriwal model of education and transport. The Congress cited data to assert that the “Delhi Model” of Kejriwal is fake.

“During the Congress regime in 2008-09, 75,974 students had passed the 12th Board Exams, and the number rose to 147,420 when Congress demitted office in 2013-14, but under the AAP Government in 2015-16, the students who passed the 12th Board Exams came down to 116,792 and the number further slumped to 109,098 in 2019-20,” said former Union Minister Ajay Maken.

He said that similarly, under the Congress Government in 2013-14, 166,257 students appeared for the 12th Board Exams while under the AAP Government in 2023-24, the number came down to 151429   instead of going up, in proportion to the increase in the Capital’s population,” said Maken.

Maken on Sunday said that “the so-called education and transport models of the Kejriwal Government is fake”.

“It was surprising that despite Delhi’s population increasing sharply, admissions of students in Government schools under the Kejriwal Government have come down, with fewer students passing out of Class XI, though the situation should have been the opposite,” added Maken.

He said that either students from Government schools dropped out, or joined private schools for better quality of education.

Maken said that in 2013-14, the total number of students in Government schools were 17.75 lakh whereas private schools had only 13.57 lakh, but by 2018-19, the number of students in private schools jumped to 16.61 lakh while that of Government schools fell to 16.47 lakh, and this was the so-called Kejriwal’s “model of education”.

“The AAP Government in Delhi was the only one where education and excise minister was the same man — Manish Sisodia — who wore the mask of education to commit the crime of liquor scam,” said Maken while addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhavan in the national capital.

He said that the people of Delhi have now fully understood the “fake models of Kejriwal” and are determined to vote for the Congress on February 5, to bring back the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government’s model of development and progress.

Maken said that when Congress comes to power, every demand of the Capital will be met. He, elaborating on the education issue under the Kejriwal Government, said that “his exposure would be the final blow on the corrupt Kejriwal Government’s misrule over 11 years”.
