LUCKNOW, July 14, 2025 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday laid the foundation stone for seven major healthcare infrastructure projects worth ₹941 crore at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), reinforcing the government’s commitment to turning Uttar Pradesh into a national leader in healthcare delivery and medical education.

Among the key initiatives is a ₹378-crore, seven-storey General Surgery Building equipped with cutting-edge robotic surgery units, 12 modular operation theatres, a 12-bed ICU, plasma sterilization unit, and a 16-bed post-operative ward.

The new facility also includes a pre-anaesthesia room, waiting areas, integrated solar power and networking systems, and patient-centric designs such as faculty and patient utility spaces. The project is slated for completion within two years.

Highlighting the Yogi government’s push for healthcare modernization, KGMU spokesperson Prof. KK Singh stated that the new General Surgery complex will drastically reduce waiting time for advanced surgeries and significantly improve surgical outcomes through robotic assistance and enhanced post-operative care.

In a parallel development, CM Yogi also laid the foundation for Trauma Centre-2, a ₹273-crore, seven-storey emergency care facility that will add 500 new trauma beds to KGMU’s capacity. With nine state-of-the-art operation theatres, sewage and effluent treatment plants, and a fully integrated fire safety system, the Trauma-2 centre will position KGMU as a Category-1 level emergency hub, equipped to handle road accidents, industrial mishaps, and natural disaster cases.

To support families of critically ill patients, a Patient Utility Complex is also being developed, featuring a waiting lounge, kitchen, café, and a parking facility for over 250 vehicles. “We are committed to humanizing healthcare. The comfort and dignity of patients and their families are as important as medical treatment,” said the Chief Minister.

Adding to the sweeping upgrades, the Chief Minister launched a ₹99.1-crore package that includes a modern administrative building, a state-of-the-art diagnostic lab, a 450-bed patient-attendant accommodation block, and an expanded guest house for visiting doctors. The new diagnostic centre will provide 24/7 testing services, with X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, pathology, and microbiology labs all under one roof—streamlining the process from test to treatment. Patients will receive reports via SMS to ensure faster response times.

Visiting patients in the wards, Adityanath reiterated that KGMU has been a pillar of public health since its founding. “This institution was the first in UP to begin COVID-19 testing during the pandemic. Today, it is again leading us into a new era of healthcare powered by technology, compassion, and efficiency,” he said.

The CM also inaugurated a Super Speciality Orthopaedic Block and a new Cardiology Wing, underscoring his government’s broader goal of offering world-class medical services across the state. “These projects are a tribute to the idea of a ‘Healthy Uttar Pradesh, Strong India,’” he remarked.

“With the rollout of these mega healthcare projects, Uttar Pradesh’s flagship medical institution is poised to set national benchmarks in trauma care, surgical precision, diagnostics, and patient comfort—creating a ripple effect in medical standards across the country,” said the state government in a media statement.
