Yogi govt claims big law-and-order thumbs up by NCRB data

According to NCRB data, 28,522 murder cases were registered in the country, taking the crime rate (defined as the number of crimes relative to the number of crimes per one lakh population) to 2.1 percent. In Uttar Pradesh, 3,491 murder cases were registered in 2022, whose crime rate is 1.5 percent.

New Delhi, December 6: Further building on the ironman image of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh government has said that the NCRB data revealed that the state has lesser crime rate than even Jharkhand. The state government said that Uttar Pradesh has a 70 per cent conviction rate for crimes against women.

The state government while quoting the data for 2022 of NCRB said that Uttar Pradesh has been placed at 20th place among states despite being the most populaous state in the country. The NCRB data is being interpreted by the state government to have endorsed the “UP Model” in the law-and-order administration. Adityanath on campaign trails in the Assembly elections has been claiming zero tolerance for criminals. The people loosely describe the “UP Model” as bulldozer justice.

“The rate of conviction in crimes related to women in UP is more than 180 percent than the national average. Due to the zero tolerance policy of the Yogi government, there has been a huge decline in serious crimes in the state as compared to other states and union territories of the country. The crime rate of robbery in UP is zero and the crime rate of attempt to murder is 25th in the country,” said the Chief Minister’s Office in a statement.

The CMO further said that more than 35 lakh crime cases were registered in the country whereas only 4,01,787 cases were registered in UP. “The crime rate of UP is 171.6 percent as compared to 258.1 percent of the entire country, whereas the ratio of cases registered in UP to the cases registered in the country was 11.28 percent. Compared to other states and union territories of the country, UP ranks 20th in number of cases filed,” said the CMO in the statement, adding that “UP has defeated big states in providing punishment in crimes related to women while even Jharkhand’s crime rate is higher than UP”.

“UP is at 28th place in terms of murder. Whereas the crime rate of murder in Jharkhand is four percent more than that of Uttar Pradesh, the crime rate of Arunachal Pradesh is 3.6 percent and that of Chhattisgarh, Haryana is 3.4 percent. Similarly, 57,256 cases of attempt to murder were registered in the country, whose crime rate is 4.1 percent. With 3,788 cases of attempt to murder registered in Uttar Pradesh, the state ranks at 25th in the entire country with a crime rate of 1.6 percent,” said the CMO in the statement.

It further stated that “while 83,344 cases of outraging modesty were registered in the country, whose crime rate is 12.4 percent, 10,548 cases of outraging modesty were registered in UP, whose crime rate is 17th in the entire country with a crime rate of 9.4 percent”.

The CMOP also stated while 31,516 cases of rape were registered in the country, whose crime rate is 4.7 percent, 3,690 cases of rape were registered in UP, whose crime rate is 24th in the country with 3.3 percent rate. “Whereas in Uttarakhand, the crime rate of rape is 15.4 percent, in Chandigarh it is 13.9 percent and in Rajasthan it is 13.9 percent,” added the CMO.

It also said that while 63,414 cases were registered under the POCSO Act in the country, whose crime rate is 14.3 percent, 8,136 cases were registered in UP, whose crime rate is 25th in the country with 9.5 percent. “At the same time, the crime rate of Andaman Nicobar is higher than UP at 97.1 percent, Lakshadweep with 55.3 percent and Sikkim with 50 percent,” added the CMO in the statement.

Similarly, 57,082 cases of rebellion were registered in the country, whose crime rate is 4.1 percent while 4,745 cases of rebellion were registered in Uttar Pradesh, whose crime rate is 24th in the country with just two percent rate.

“A total of 28,356 cases of robbery were registered in the country, whose crime rate is 2.1 percent, while 1,975 cases were registered in UP, whose crime rate is 27th in the country with 0.8 percent. Even Delhi’s crime rate in robbery is higher than UP’s 8.6 percent,” said the CMO in the statement.
