New Delhi, July 18: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday vowed modernisation with security as the cornerstone of the Communist ruled nation. At the 20th Chinese Communist Party (CPC) convention, Xi unveiled a detailed roadmap to launch “quality development” by also ensuring the national security.
Xi also stressed the focus of China on Taiwan. China is seeking integration of Taiwan, while flexing military muscles.
The communique issued after the 20th CPC stated that “national security provides a pivotal foundation for ensuring steady and continued progress in Chinese modernization”. “We must fully apply a holistic approach to national security, improve the institutions and mechanisms for safeguarding national security, and ensure that high-quality development and greater security reinforce each other, so as to effectively safeguard the country’s stability and security over the long term,” added the statement readout by Xi at the CPC.
Xi vowed to “improve the national security system, the public security governance mechanisms, the social governance system, and the mechanisms for ensuring national security in foreign-related affairs”.

The CPC meeting took place amid Chinese growth slowing, while property crisis looms large on the Communist ruled nation. Also, China is facing a global head for its “export of overcapacity”.
“Modernizing national defense and the armed forces is an integral part of Chinese modernization. We must maintain the Party’s absolute leadership over the people’s armed forces and fully implement the strategy of strengthening the military through reform to provide a strong guarantee for realizing the centenary goal of the People’s Liberation Army in 2027 and achieving basic modernization of national defense and the armed forces,” added the CPC communique.
The CPC witnessed reiteration of Xi’s bid to reform “joint operations systems, and deepen military-civilian reforms”. “The Party’s leadership is the fundamental guarantee for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization. We must acquire a deep understanding of the decisive significance of establishing Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole,” added the statement issued at the conclusion of the 20th CPC.

Xi’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole was also strongly asserted by the statement issued at the conclusion of the CPC. “We must maintain keen awareness of the need to use the Party’s own transformation to steer social transformation and continue to apply the spirit of reform and strict standards in conducting Party self-governance,” added the statement.
In a veiled reference to some of the high-profile purges seen in the recent months, the statement said: “We will improve the systems and regulations for the Party’s self-reform and continue working to purify, improve, renew, and excel ourselves. All this will enable our Party to remain the strong leadership core in building socialism with Chinese characteristics.”
