Sources in the BJP said that “organisational changes will continue to be postponed until the party listens to the RSS.”

NEW DELHI, August 24, 2025 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems settling in a comfort zone of postponing election for the post of the party president. With the Vice President of India election on September 9 and ‘Pitripaksha’ beginning on September 7, the window for holding the election of the post of the chief of the BJP is now closing fast.

Informed sources said that the tug of war between the BJP and its ideological patron Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) remains unresolved. “The RSS has not yet given approval to any of the names sent by the BJP for the post of the party’s president. The meeting of senior RSS leader Arun Kumar with the BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda also failed to resolve the deadlock,” said a highly placed source in the BJP.

Nadda is currently serving in the dual role as a Union Minister and the president of the BJP. The constitution of the saffron outfit enshrines the principle of “one man, one post.”

Nadda became a Union Minister 13 months ago. Unlike his predecessor and Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah, who had overseen the organisational election speedily, Nadda has failed to hold the poll for his successor. In his single tenure of three years, Nadda already now has entered into the sixth year in the office.

The BJP leaders are growing worried that the party’s state wings may slip into a state of status quo as the outfit is yet to find new presidents in crucial states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Gujarat.

“The BJP may even look at the prospects of Nadda staying in the post of the chief of the party till the Bihar Assembly elections in November this year,” added the source in the BJP.

Sources in the BJP said that “organisational changes will continue to be postponed until the party listens to the RSS.” Even Uttar Pradesh BJP unit is buzzing with grapevine of the turf war as the party fails to elect the new chief in the state unit.

The BJP has key Assembly elections lined up, beginning with Bihar this year, which will test the organisational acumen of the new chief of the party. Besides, the BJP’s new chief also has to establish a harmonious relations with the RSS.
