Prime Minister Narendra Modi is learning Tamil language. The grapevine within the BJP is that Modi is passionately picking up his language skills in Tamil. It is not yet verified whether the prime minister is being self-taught or he has hired tutors for Tamil learning.
Modi is particularly impressed with the Tamil Nadu state unit president K. Annamalai. The former IPS officer is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Coimbatore parliamentary seat. It’s being said within the BJP circles that Modi has highly been impressed with Annamalai.
The buzz in the BJP corridors is also that the prime minister has even memorized a few of the famous lines of the iconic poet Thiruvalluvar. It may be noted that Modi often quotes Thiruvalluvar in his speeches.

It’s also being said that Modi is pressing the BJP to back up Annamalai with support. The Tamil Nadu BJP chief has particularly impressed the prime minister by pulling crowds during his padyatra.
The prime minister is also sanguine of the BJP’s support base in Tamil Nadu. It’s being said that Modi believes that his initiative of ‘Kashi-Tamil Sangamam’ is doing magic in Tamil Nadu.
The prime minister is convinced that ‘Kashi-Tamil Sangamam’ has brought a wave of cultural nationalism in Tamil Nadu. This has made him convinced that he should pick the Tamil language skill.

It may be noted that Modi is known to speak only Hindi, Gujarati, and English languages. It should be known that Modi speaks fluent English. But he mostly speaks in Hindi due to the BJP’s ideological positioning.
The prime minister is so sanguine about Tamil Nadu as per buzz in the BJP circle that he believes that the party could fetch four-five times more vote shares in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP had polled 3.77 per cent vote shares in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Absence of ‘GoModi’ trends on social media during the last visit of the prime minister to Tamil Nadu has also emboldened the spirit of the party leaders. The BJP leaders have now been convinced that the party’s narrative on ‘Sanatan’ after Udhyanidhi Stalin’s purported remark has finally allowed the party to push its idea of cultural nationalism in the minds of the people in Tamil Nadu.
