New Delhi, November 20, 2025 — Mohan Yadav (name changed) walked out of the counting centre after the EVM for his polling booth began counting of votes in the Bihar Assembly elections. He was the frontman for the Congress candidate, who had given him ₹30,000 two days before polling to take care of the influential people in his area.
Mohan Yadav had given lavish treat to a few of his men in his area. He was confident that 850 votes of the Yadav caste will majorly go for the Congress candidate. The seat was in the Congress quota as part of the seat adjustment within the Mahagathbandhan.
“Almost 700 of the people had voted, and I was sure that 600 of them will vote for the Congress,” he said, while discussing the outcome of the elections in Bihar. I left the counting centre abruptly, he added.
But he was left red-faced when the EVM for his booth was taken up for the counting. “The Congress candidate got just 55 votes. This was unbelievable,” he added.
Mohan Yadav is still in disbelief that the people from his area who always voted for the Opposition candidate had deserted in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025. “The BJP candidate got almost 600 votes from the traditional Mahagathbandhan vote base. I still cannot make sense of what happened in the election,” he added.
The BJP candidate won the election with over 20,000 votes from the Assembly constituency. Accounts of Mohan Yadav suggest that the BJP and the NDA constituents made severe dent in the core vote base of the Mahagathbandhan.
Now that the election outcome is out, it’s only speculation on what happened, he said. Mohan Yadav added that possibly the Yadavs in his area voted for the BJP because of the welfare schemes, including ₹10,000 for Jeevika women.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), while contesting 143 seats bagged 25 of them after polling 24 percent vote share. In contrast, the BJP and the NDA constituents hit the bull’s eye with winning strike rates of over 85 percent.
Political observers in Bihar now claim that the NDA made a major inroad into the Yadav vote base of the RJD. This was despite the fact that Tejashwi Yadav was the CM face of the Oppositional alliance.
