US Strike on Iran a Global Geopolitical Turning Point: Experts
By TRH News Desk
NEW DELHI, June 22, 2025 – The US military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities is being widely viewed not only as a tactical military manoeuvre but as a profound geopolitical turning point. The US strikes on Iranian nuclear facility at Fordow may unleash global consequences that could reshape power dynamics, test international institutions, and provoke a new phase of strategic confrontation.
Jarno Limnéll, Finnish politician, cybersecurity expert, and professor, called the strike “a watershed moment,” warning that the consequences go well beyond the Middle East. “Great power relations, the limits of regional war, and the ability of the international system to prevent uncontrolled escalation are now being tested,” said Limnéll, highlighting that the strike—militarily successful in its immediate goal—has triggered a cycle of countermeasures.
The US attack reportedly hit key sites involved in Iran’s nuclear program. While Washington has claimed initial success, Limnéll cautioned that the true impact depends on Iran’s next moves: “Tehran may respond directly, asymmetrically, or through its network of allies. But the broader strategic risk lies in whether Iran withdraws from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), accelerates its nuclear program, or attempts to close the Strait of Hormuz, potentially pushing the crisis into global waters.”
The attack has also brought global players into sharper focus. China and Russia, Limnéll noted, are actively supporting Iran through diplomatic channels while seeking to challenge Western dominance. The West now faces a fork in the road: “Europe must decide whether to disengage or step forward to help restore stability.”
Sari Arho Havrén, a leading China analyst, said the strike also sends a calibrated message to global powers. “President Trump, despite professing an aversion to new wars, has demonstrated that military force remains a tool to defend core US interests. This was a signal to both Russia and China—backers of Iran—that American restraint has limits.”
She added that Beijing and Moscow will likely use the crisis to expand influence in the region, especially as the West grapples with internal divisions and a fragile multilateral order.
With tensions high, both experts warned that the line between war and peace has grown dangerously thin. The days ahead, they stressed, will be crucial in determining whether the world can contain the crisis through diplomacy—or descend into prolonged and destabilizing conflict.
Iran has vowed retaliations against the US. After the US B2 dropped a dozen of bunker buster bombs, each weighing 30000-pound, over the Fordow nuclear facilities. Iran intensified missile attacks on Israel, targeting Tel Aviv, Haifa, and other Israeli settlements in Palestinian areas.
