New Delhi, October 20: India’s ambassador in Canada Sanjay Verma in an explosive interview told CTV News that “we mistrust Justin Trudeau and his entire team”. Verma told the Canadian broadcaster that Canada failed to offer a shred of evidence while making allegations against him and India.
“Yes, we do keep tabs on Khalistanis, that’s our job. And it’s all overt, our diplomats are overt and we scan their publications because we speak Punjabi. It’s all open,” Verma told the Canadian broadcaster. He said that Trudeau is making allegations on basis of hearsay.
Verma told the broadcaster that the bilateral relations will only go down from here between India and Canada. “Our security interests are concerns, and we need to discuss. I am making allegations that Khalistanis are part of the security system in Canada,” added Verma.

The CTV News website was not accessible in India to see the news report based on the interview of Verma. India has withdrawn Verma from Canada after Ottawa made a direct allegation against him for an alleged involvement in the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
“We have been asking for evidence for the last one year. But we have not been provided with any evidence yet,” Verma told the Canadian broadcaster.
The Indian ambassador also charged that the “Royal Canadian Mounted Police are not politically independent. They act as political tools.”
Verma told the Canadian broadcaster that he needed to know what allegations are being made against him. “Nothing at all. No evidence presented. It’s politically motivated,” Verma told CTV News when asked that he was a person of interest in the murder of Nijjar.
Verma said that he needed to know what he is being interrogated for if he has to be interrogated. “No chargesheet has been filed,” Verma told the CTV News.

The Indian ambassador asserted that he needed evidence to prepare the defence as he had a right to be represented by a lawyer. The CTV news broadcaster told Verma that he was being accused of collecting information about the Sikh separatists.
“Do we need to keep a check on what pro-Khalistani activists are doing? Yes, we do that as that’s my lateral interest. We need to know what my enemies are doing here. That we do by reading the social media posts. We know Punjabis,” Verma told CTV News.
He condemned the killing of Nijjar, saying India is committed against an extra-territorial murders. “But we known the G7 countries committing extra-territorial murders. This is double-standard,” added Verma.
He said that India has already formed a high-level committee to look into the allegations which is working in tandem with the US administration. “I entirely refute the allegations against India made in the killing of Nijjar,” Verma told CTV News.
