Sumeet Sood Stays in Iran Prison Amid Falling Health

New Delhi, February 20: The 1971 India Pakistan War veteran VK Sud has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the release of his son. Sumeet Sud, a resident of Gurugram, is held captive in Iran after his arrest by the security agencies in Tehran.

“My son Sumeet Sud went for a business trip to Iran on January 12 this year. He is missing since then,” appealed the octogenarian in a message to the Prime Minister.

The war veteran has been quoted by Gurugram-based dailies, saying that the “Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a press briefing on January 31 spoke of the arrest of three Indians in Tehran. My son was one of them.”

Sumeet Sud is a senior manager with a shipping company. He was visiting Iran on a business trip. The veteran said that his son works for Bokors shipping company as a director.

Sumeet Sud called his spouse last month from an unknown number to inform that he had been arrested. He had called after he went missing on January 12 upon arrival in Tehran, said the media reports.

Sumeet Sud had gone to Tehran via Muscat in an Oman Airlines. On arrival at the Tehran Airport, he called his wife to inform that he had reached. He also had shared that he would be meeting Ahmed for booking a consignment of oil tankers.

But the mobile phone of Sumeet Sud became unreachable afterwards, added the war veteran in a statement issued for the media. It was reported that the two other Indian who had been arrested along with Sumeet Sud were released by Iran.

But Sumeet Sud continues to be in the Iranian prison. The war veteran acknowledged that the Indian embassy has given assistance while seeking diplomatic option to help Sumeet Sud. By the war veteran is worried that his son’s health conditions are deteriorating while being subjected to ill-treatment in the prison.

Family of Sumeet Sud resides in Malibu Town in Gurugram. The residents of the society have come forth to appeal to the Prime Minister for immediate release of Sumeet Sud.

Earlier, eight Indian sailors had been arrested in Qatar and a local court had awarded them death sentences for (unspecified charges”. While seven of them have returned after the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani pardoned them, the seniormost Purnendu Tiwari is still held up in Doha due to travel ban on him.
