New Delhi, April 28, 2025: At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is already India’s new cricket sensation. Hailing from Bihar, left-handed prodigy blasted to the fastest century in an IPL match to etch his name in the record book.
He first became the youngest player to debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now, he’s the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket.
The left-handed batting prodigy from Bihar plays for Rajasthan Royals. He achieved this feat on Monday during an IPL match against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.
Suryavanshi’s blistering 35-ball century, comprising 101 runs off 38 balls, not only shattered records but also sparked conversations about the future of Indian cricket.
Born on March 27, 2011, in Tajpur, Samastipur district of Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi picked up a cricket bat at the age of four, coached initially by his father, Sanjeev. By nine, he was training at a cricket academy in Samastipur. He showed promise far beyond his years.
His father’s dedication, selling farmland to fund Vaibhav’s training, laid the foundation for a remarkable career. At 12, Vaibhav played in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, amassing 400 runs in five matches.
He made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai in January 2024. Vaibhav becoming the second-youngest Ranji Trophy player at 12 years and 284 days.
Vaibhav’s breakthrough came in September 2024, when he smashed a 58-ball century for India U19 against Australia U19 in Chennai, the fastest by an Indian in youth Tests and second-fastest globally.
He followed this with standout performances in the U19 Asia Cup, scoring an unbeaten 76 off 46 balls against UAE and 67 off 36 against Sri Lanka in the semi-final.
His fearless batting caught the eye of Rajasthan Royals, who signed him for ₹1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, making him the youngest player ever to bag an IPL contract at 13.
On Monday, Vaibhav Suryavanshi walked out to open for Rajasthan Royals alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal against Gujarat Titans. What followed was a display of audacious stroke play that left spectators and experts in awe.
Chasing a target, Vaibhav raced to a 17-ball fifty, already making history as the youngest to achieve that milestone in the IPL. He didn’t stop there, reaching his century in just 35 balls. He smashed 101 off 38 deliveries with a flurry of sixes against bowlers like Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Ishant Sharma, and Prasidh Krishna.
This knock made him the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket and across all formats of men’s cricket, while also recording the second-fastest hundred in IPL history.
Sports experts on X were quick to celebrate Vaibhav’s historic achievement, marveling at his composure and power at such a young age.
@ESPNcricinfo captured the moment’s magnitude, posting, “VAIBHAV SURYAVANSHI! UNBELIEVABLE! 35-BALL IPL HUNDRED AT THE AGE OF 14!” They further noted, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket,” and “Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the youngest centurion in all formats of men’s cricket,” emphasizing the unprecedented nature of his feat.
@cricketnext highlighted the electric atmosphere in Jaipur, stating, “HISTORY CREATED in Jaipur! 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi blasts the 2nd fastest IPL century while Yashasvi Jaiswal joins the party to demolish Gujarat Titans!” They added, “14 years old, 101 off 38, and zero chill. Vaibhav Suryavanshi just rewrote the IPL history books… and he’s not even old enough to drive!” reflecting the sheer disbelief at his dominance.
@nanuramu expressed incredulity, writing, “What am I watching? Is this for real? It’s not easy to hit fours and sixes at this rate even in book cricket. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, you’re a freak. An IPL century off 35 balls at the age of 14, is an unbelievable feat.” Meanwhile, @MrAakay focused on his aggressive intent, noting, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi is dealing only in sixes! Smashed Siraj, Sundar, Ishant, and Prasidh all over the park! Youngest to hit an IPL century. 2nd fastest hundred in IPL history. A star is born under the biggest lights!”
Vaibhav’s journey has been marked by a fearless approach, inspired by his idol, Brian Lara, whose match-winning attitude he seeks to emulate. Despite his meteoric rise, experts like Virender Sehwag have cautioned him against complacency, urging him to aim for a long-term career like Virat Kohli’s 18-season IPL stint.
Vaibhav’s IPL debut earlier in April against Lucknow Super Giants, where he smashed a six off his first ball and scored 34 off 20, had already signaled his potential.
Under the mentorship of Rahul Dravid at Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav is poised for growth.
