New Delhi, February 27: The US embassy scheduled a Visa interview for family members of Neelam Shinde, who went into Coma in a hit-and-run accident in California. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recommended the US Embassy for an emergency Visa for the family members of the Indian student.

The US Embassy has scheduled a visa interview for family members of Shinde for tomorrow, February 28. The MEA made the recommendation after an online campaign urged upon the government to intervene in the matter. The netizens were anguished at the struggle of the parents of 35-year-old Shinde for getting the US Visa.

Shinde met with a mishap on February 14 in a hit-and-run accident in California. Her family is seeking to be by her side while she lies in the coma, said multiple reports.

Reports said that Shinde is being treated as he remains in an ICU. The driver of the vehicle that hit her has been detained. Netizens had tagged Union Minister for External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar with appeal for getting the Visa for the family members of Shinde.

The Indian student hails from the Satar district. Reports said that she sustained critical head and chest injuries in the hit-and-run accident.

“Student Neelam Shinde has met with an accident in the USA and is hospitalized in a local hospital. Her father, Tanaji Shinde, from Satara, Maharashtra, India, urgently needs to visit his daughter due to a medical emergency,” Supriya Sule, the Lok Sabha MP of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), posted on X, while tagging the MEA and Jaishankar.

Sule said that “Tanaji Shinde has applied for an urgent visa to the USA and requires assistance”. “Road accidents are common in the USA due to huge traffic rush and the people on rash drives. Asian women drivers must get precautions from drug or alcohol addict drivers,” said AnamjemWAK in a post on X.
