New Delhi, October 16: The US-based media has reported the Secretary of State Antony Blinken got cold reception in at least Saudi Arabia and Egypt as he tried to win the Arab World on the side of Israel for war against the Hamas. The US is also now being seen to be recalibrating the stance to send out a loud message that Washington doesn’t favour the killings of the civilians in the Gaza.

“We must not lose sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians had nothing to do with Hamas’s appalling attacks, and are suffering as a result of them,” Joe Biden posted on X, formerly Twitter, to qualify the American stand in the ongoing Israeli offensive in the Gaza strip.

Alon Pinkas, writing in the Israeli daily Haaretz, argued that “the American message of support for Israel and a lawful military response to Hamas in Gaza should not be misinterpreted as US President Joe Biden looking to join a war in the Middle wast, or willing to ignore the suffering of Palestinian civilians”.

Blinken also moderated his statement after winding up his whirlwind tour of the Arabian capitals, saying “we stand with Israel as it defends itself. The United States is also actively working to ensure the people of Gaza can get out of harm’s way and the assistance they need — food, water, medicine — can get in. Hamas does not care if Palestinians suffer.”

Blinken since the Hamas attacks on Israel travelled to Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. “What I’ve heard from every partner is a shared view to prevent the conflict from spreading, to safeguard innocent lives, and to get assistance to those in Gaza who need it,” added Blinken.

The moderation in the American stance on Israel’s hot pursuit of the Hamas, which is currently seen in the relentless air-bombing in Gaza, has come in the backdrop of Turkey, Egypt, and other Islamic nations asserting that Israel has no sanction of the international laws to “kill civilians in Gaza”. The US is also witnessing protests against the killings of the civilians in Gaza.

While the US is keen to work out a temporary ceasefire to help the evacuation of the civilians from Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has denied that any truce is being worked out. China and Russia have also called for a ceasefire to reach out the humanitarian assistance to the civilians in Gaza.
