India’s First Vistadome Coach Jungle Safari: Yogi Adityanath Govt Launches Scenic Train from Katerniaghat to Dudhwa Tiger Reserve

 By Amit Kumar

LUCKNOW, May 17, 2025 – Now experience the thrill of a jungle safari through Uttar Pradesh’s lush forests on a scenic train ride for just ₹275.

In a pioneering move to promote eco-tourism, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has launched India’s first Vistadome coach service for jungle safaris. The train now connects Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary to Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. It offers tourists a unique, panoramic experience of the state’s rich biodiversity and wilderness.

This special Vistadome train—available every weekend initially—has been rolled out under the initiative of the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board. With large glass windows, transparent rooftops, and comfortable seating, the Vistadome coaches allow travelers to enjoy uninterrupted views of forests, wetlands, grasslands, and wildlife for a nominal fare of just ₹275.

A Scenic 107 km Journey Through Nature

The service spans a 107-kilometer stretch and takes approximately 4 hours and 25 minutes, offering a rare glimpse into the state’s ecological treasures including the Dudhwa National Park, Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, and Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary.

“The route is designed to provide close encounters with nature, featuring a mix of forest landscapes and thriving ecosystems,” said the UP Tourism department in a media statement.

Tourists aboard the Bichia to Mailani Tourist Passenger Train (No. 52259) can board at Bichia station (Bahraich) at 11:45 AM, arriving at Mailani (Lakhimpur Kheri) at 4:10 PM. The return train (No. 52260) departs Mailani at 6:05 AM, reaching Bichia by 10:30 AM. The route includes nine key stops through pristine forest zones.

An All-Season Eco-Tourism Initiative

Tourism Director Prakhar Mishra highlighted that the service is part of CM Yogi Adityanath’s broader “One Destination, Three Forests” vision to position Uttar Pradesh’s forests as a national and international eco-tourism hub. Initially running on Saturdays and Sundays, the service may expand to daily operations based on tourist response.

The service will operate year-round, including during the monsoon season—providing nature enthusiasts an immersive experience of the region’s diverse terrain, from woodlands to farmlands.

Boost to Local Economy and Employment

The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for local communities. Homestay owners, resort operators, and travel agents stand to benefit as the service draws more footfall. “The government is also working on a subsidized travel package from Lucknow to Katerniaghat for tourists,” added the UP Tourism.

Special Tours for Students and Influencers

Under the Young Tourism Club program, curated educational tours are being organized for students from government schools. Additionally, fam tours for travel bloggers and social media influencers are promoting the service online—spreading awareness and reinforcing the importance of biodiversity conservation.

The Vistadome train service marks a milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s journey toward sustainable tourism. It not only enriches the tourist experience but also underscores the state’s commitment to protecting its natural heritage and promoting a greener future.
