Ukraine War: Trump says ‘Probably’ on Meeting Putin This Month

New Delhi, February 19: A day after groundbreaking Riyadh meeting, US President Donald Trump hinted he could meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin this month. The US and Russia discussed roadmap to end the Ukraine War in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia yesterday.
Addressing a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Trump replied to question on his meeting Putin this month, saying: “Probably”. “I think I have the power to end this war, and I think it’s going very well,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday.
US Secretary of the State Marco Rubio told reporters in Riyadh that no date yet has been fixed for a meeting between Trump and Putin. Yet, Rubio said that the Riyadh meeting was a step forward after Trump-Putin phone talk on Ukraine War.
Trump also hit out at Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian President yesterday warned that there can be no end to the war without taking Ukraine on board. He had also set out three conditions for the participation of Ukraine in the peace talks.
“Today I heard, ‘oh, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for three years, you should have ended it… you should have never started it. You could have made a deal,” Trump said on complaints of Zelenskyy.

The Ukrainian President has spelt out that a security guarantee for Ukraine and non-recognition of territories occupied by Russia are preconditions for the participation of Ukraine in peace talks. While the US-Russia held talks in Riyadh, Zelenskyy was in Turkey yesterday to enlist support for an pan-Europe against Trump-led efforts to end the war.
“Having troops over there would be fine, I wouldn’t object to it at all,” Trump told reporters on European nations discussing the possibility of deploying peace keeping force in Ukraine. Germany and France are pushing for deploying the peace keeping force in Ukraine.
Russia also has said that Moscow will not object if Ukraine joins the European Union. Kremlin yesterday said that it’s Ukraine’s sovereign right to join the EU.
But Trump’s unilateral efforts to strike deal with Putin have riled up Ukraine and European nations. Trump-baiters claimed that the US President is buying into the Russian narrative on the Ukraine War.
The three-year-old Ukraine War is approaching an endgame because the US is no more willing to fund the military efforts, said geopolitical analysts. They stressed that Trump is keen to strike an energy deal with Putin.
