Chennai, April 27, 2025: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay demonstrated the seriousness of contesting the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections next year with a show of strength over the weekend.

Vijay addressed party workers at a booth committee conference in Coimbatore. The meeting was held over the weekend for two days. The TVK claimed to have brought together a cadre strength of 8000 booth level functionaries at the meeting.

On Sunday, Vijay’s roadshow again witnessed feverish rush of his fans catching his glimpses. On way the meeting venue, his cavalcade moved at snail’s pace.

On Saturday, Vijay, while addressing the booth workers, emphasized the importance of earning public trust. Ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Vijay asked booth workers to show works on the ground to win trust of the people.

Vijay addressed the meeting at a private college near Kurumbapalayam. He urged booth-level agents to connect with people and instil confidence in TVK’s vision.

“Vote alone is not important. Groundwork is needed to earn the trust of the people,” said the film star turned politician. The two-day meeting was attended by TVK’s 8,000 cadres from Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, the Nilgiris, and Karur districts of Tamil Nadu.

The TVK functionaries claim that the party already has the highest number of party districts in Tamil Nadu. They also claim that the TVK already has 120 party districts, which is higher than the ruling DMP and the Opposition AIADMK strength as far as presence at booth level is concerned.

“Agents were briefed on voter outreach, booth management, and strengthening local presence. They have been briefed on election data from 2019 and 2021 Assembly elections,” said a senior TVK functionary. Election strategist Prashant Kishor also has met Vijay for poll strategies.

Vijay’s weekend show with the meeting was not without drama as a fan jumped from a tree onto his car during a rally. Local media claimed that the incident showed Vijay’s massive popularity.

“Vijay assisted the fan, gifting him a scarf in TVK’s colours,” reported the local media. But the booth level conference was also marred by a hoax bomb threat email sent to Gokulam Park Hotel near Vijay’s accommodation at Le Méridien Hotel, which authorities later debunked.

TVK’s election campaign general secretary, Aadhav Arjuna, told reporters that there are 69,204 in Tamil Nadu. There are 6.18 crore voters in the state, he said.

The TVK functionaries said that the party will make a serious foray into the state Assembly election and emerge the third alternative. Besides the DMK-Congress alliance, the BJP has tied with the AIADMK for the next year’s Assembly elections.
