Demands Intensify to Fire Tulsi Gabbard Over Yemen War Signal Leaks

By TRH News Desk

New Delhi, March 26: US Director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is facing intense backlash over Signal leaks of Yemen War plan. During intelligence hearing, Gabbard faced uncomfortable questions on potential risks to US pilots in the aftermath of leaks of war plan.

“Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, admitted that targets for the strike were discussed in the Signal chain,” said Senator Mark Kelly in a post on X. He took the centre stage in questioning Gabbard at the intelligence hearing.

“Our adversaries would go to great lengths to get this type of information and US security officials discussed it in an unsecured group chat without even checking to see who was in it,” said Kelly. Reports said that a journalist was added in the Signal group in which classified plan was shared.

“Their carelessness put our pilots’ lives at risk,” added Kelly. He grilled Gabbard on Signal Leaks and US involvement in Yemen War.

Tensions flared at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing as Senator Mark Kelly aggressively questioned Gabbard. She is also a former US Representative. The leaks revealed internal communications through the encrypted messaging service Signal.

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the leaks took place due to “glitch”. Kelly expressed concerns about the leak’s implications for US national security and military operations in the region.

The leaks contained sensitive discussions about US intelligence activities and military strategies in Yemen. The leaks have caused a stir in Washington and prompted investigations into the unauthorized release of classified materials.

During the hearing, Kelly questioned Gabbard. “You have been critical of our involvement in Yemen, and I understand your concerns, but these leaks, coming from a platform like Signal, have serious consequences,” Kelly said.

He also asked “what responsibility do you think those responsible for this leak should bear? And do you believe that these types of leaks are beneficial in any way to US national security?”

Gabbard defended her position, arguing that the American public deserves transparency about the US role in Yemen. “The issue is not about the leak itself. It’s about why we are involved in a war that has caused a humanitarian crisis and been largely ignored by our political leaders,” Gabbard responded.

She also stated that “I have always called for an end to US support for Saudi-led operations in Yemen, and if the leak brings that conversation to the forefront, then perhaps it serves a greater purpose.”

Kelly is a former NASA astronaut and military veteran. He pushed back, emphasizing the security risks posed by the unauthorized disclosure of classified materials. “While I agree that transparency is important, we cannot overlook the dangers posed by these kinds of leaks. They not only expose operational details but could potentially endanger American lives and compromise military partnerships in the region,” Kelly said.

The exchange grew more heated as Gabbard reiterated her stance on the US military’s involvement in Yemen, which she has criticized for years, particularly the support provided to the Saudi-led coalition in the ongoing civil war.

“This war is a disaster, and the US should not be complicit in it,” Gabbard argued. She also said “If leaks are a consequence of bringing the truth to light, then perhaps they are a necessary step in ending this conflict.”

The testimony and the back-and-forth between Gabbard and Kelly highlighted the ongoing debate over US foreign policy in Yemen. “I will continue to speak out against unnecessary military engagements that harm civilians and harm our own soldiers, but I also acknowledge the need to secure our information and ensure that those who leak classified material face consequences,” Gabbard said.
