Putin Proposes US-Russia Film Collaboration on Traditional Values in Hour-Long Call with Trump

By TRH News Desk

NEW DELHI, July 4, 2025 — In a nearly hour-long phone conversation on the eve of the US Independence Day, Russian President Vladimir Putin and HIS American counterpart Donald Trump struck a tone of mutual admiration, shared historical nostalgia, and potential cultural cooperation — including an unexpected proposal to collaborate on motion pictures that promote “traditional values.”

According to a statement issued by Yury Ushakov, aide to Putin, the Russian leader began the conversation by congratulating Trump on the passage of his long-touted legislative package — the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” — which aims to overhaul the US tax code, immigration policies, and energy framework.

Putin also extended formal greetings for the Fourth of July, while highlighting Russia’s lesser-known historical support for the United States during its War of Independence and the Civil War. “Our countries are bound not only by their alliance during World Wars One and Two, but also by deeper historical ties,” Ushakov emphasized.

A Proposal from the Kremlin: Films on Traditional Values

In a notable cultural overture, Putin proposed launching an exchange of motion pictures between Russia and the US — specifically focused on themes that both leaders consider central to their domestic political identities: family, faith, patriotism, and traditional values.

The idea reportedly stemmed from a recent meeting Putin held with Russian business leaders. “President Trump reacted immediately and said he liked this idea,” Ushakov noted, suggesting that the plan could be an early step toward a new form of cultural diplomacy between the two countries.

While concrete details of such a cinematic collaboration remain unclear, the suggestion stands out amid an otherwise geopolitically tense atmosphere, offering a softer, values-driven channel of engagement.

Talking Iran, Ukraine, Syria — and Energy

Beyond symbolic gestures, the two leaders discussed key geopolitical flashpoints:

  • On Iran, both sides agreed to maintain direct channels of communication between foreign ministries and presidential aides, emphasizing diplomacy over conflict.
  • Regarding Syria, there was a renewed commitment to continue dialogue on the evolving situation on the ground.
  • On Ukraine, Trump once again pressed for an end to hostilities, while Putin reiterated Russia’s commitment to finding a “negotiated political solution.” He referred to recent humanitarian agreements reached in Istanbul and reaffirmed Moscow’s strategic goals, stating that Russia “will not back down” until the “root causes” of the conflict are addressed.

The conversation also touched upon bilateral cooperation in energy and space exploration, with both sides reaffirming their interest in advancing joint projects in those sectors.

“On the Same Page”

Ushakov described the tone of the call as “candid, business-minded, and concrete,” suggesting that Trump and Putin continue to enjoy a personal rapport rarely seen between other Western leaders and the Kremlin.

The two Presidents plan to speak again “soon,” according to the Russian aide, continuing a line of communication that has often drawn scrutiny in diplomatic circles.

While the world watches the political maneuvers around Ukraine and the Middle East, the motion picture proposal — blending soft power with ideological alignment — adds a peculiar but telling subplot to the ongoing Trump-Putin dynamic.

As one observer in Moscow noted on social media, “First came nuclear talks. Now comes Hollywood?”
