Trump Picks up Doug Burgum for Energy Revamp ‘to end wars’

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgman to Head National Energy Council

New Delhi, November 16: The US President-elect Donald Trump has proposed North Dakota Governor Doug Burgman to lead the energy transformation to “end wars all around the world”. Burgman will be Interior Secretary and also the chairman of the National Energy Council (NEC).

“I am thrilled to announce that the North Dakota Governor Doug Burgman will be joining my administration as both secretary of Interior as well as chairman of the newly formed and very important National Energy Council,” said Trump in a statement.

Trump spotlighted the significance of the appointment, to be approved by the Congress, by stating that the National Energy Council will play a key role for the US diplomacy to end “wars around the world”. Russia-Ukraine War is now extended into the third year with the US as the main supplier of the weapons for Kyiv.

“This council will oversee the path of US Energy dominance by cutting red-tape, providing private sector investments, innovation over regulation,” said Trump in the statement. He added that the energy transformation will drive down inflation.

Notably, Trump on campaign trails had promised to cut down the energy bills of the people by half. The Ukraine War is attributed for fuelling inflation through continents. Several of the incumbent governments lost powers in elections for reasons attributed to inflation and high cost of living.

“With the US energy dominance, we will drive down inflation, win the AI arms race with China (and others), and expand American diplomatic power to end wars all across the world,” added Trump in the statement,

His claims to end wars with energy transformation has come amid report of billionaire Elon Musk meeting top Iranian envoy at the United Nations on Monday with aim to defuse tension. Iran and Israel tension continues to fester amid Tel Aviv issuing war rhetoric against Tehran.

Trump in his statement said that “Radical Left’s war on American Energy has hurt our allies by making them buy energy from adversaries which in turn fuel war and terror all around the world”. He asserted that energy dominance will allow the US to sell energy to Europe.

It’s worthwhile to note that Europe had largely been dependent on energy supplies from Russia until the Ukraine War broke out. Soon after the Ukraine War breakout, two underwater explosions disrupted the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. The September 2022 incident damaged three of the four pipelines supplying Russian gas to Germany and other European countries.
