NEW DELHI, June 24 –US President Donald J. Trump has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in brokering a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, and for taking decisive steps to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The nomination was submitted by Congressman Earl L. ‘Buddy’ Carter (R-GA), who hailed Trump’s leadership as a pivotal force in defusing a major regional crisis.
In a letter addressed to Jørgen Watne Frydnes, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Congressman Carter praised Trump for what he called an “extraordinary and historic” role in halting hostilities and promoting peace in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
“President Trump announced the terms of a complete and total ceasefire agreement, commending both Israel and Iran for their courage to end the war,” Carter wrote, adding that the move had “preserved thousands, if not millions, of lives throughout the Middle East and around the globe.”
Carter underscored that the ceasefire, widely viewed as unexpected and improbable, came at a time when the world was on the brink of a broader regional conflict. He credited Trump’s “strength and strategic diplomacy” for achieving what many had thought impossible: a full cessation of military activity and de-escalation between two hostile nations.
“His message of mutual respect and peace will now result in a full cessation of military activity, no further escalation,” the Congressman wrote. A significant part of the nomination highlights Trump’s efforts to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear weapons program.
Carter argued that Trump’s actions ensured that “the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon.” The Congressman said Trump’s leadership exemplified the ideals of the Nobel Peace Prize, particularly the “pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.”
“Such a breakthrough demands both courage and clarity,” Carter emphasized, calling Trump’s conduct “a rare glimpse of hope” in a region long plagued by war and animosity.
The nomination adds to a growing list of controversial recognitions for the former president, who has previously been nominated for the Nobel Prize for his role in facilitating peace agreements in the Middle East during his tenure.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has not yet commented on the nomination, which comes amid ongoing global debates about Trump’s foreign policy legacy. Earlier, Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir had also spoken of nominating Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for “his role in achieving a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.”
