Trump-Musk Break up Deepens Cracks in Oligarchs Cheering US President

NEW DELHI, June 6, 2025 – A public rift between US President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk has erupted. Trump with a series of Truth Social posts lambasted Musk, accusing him of being riled after the “EV mandate was taken away from him”.
Trump-Musk break up erupted over billionaire’s criticism of the proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The escalating feud, rooted in disagreements over federal spending and policy priorities, captivated political and business circles, with both sides airing their grievances on social media platforms.
In a series of fiery posts on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at Musk, claiming, “I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago. This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress.”
Trump also asserted that the bill will lead to a “Record Cut in Expenses, $1.6 Trillion Dollars, and the Biggest Tax Cut ever given. If this Bill doesn’t pass, there will be a 68% Tax Increase, and things far worse than that. I didn’t create this mess, I’m just here to FIX IT. This puts our Country on a Path of Greatness.”
In another post, Trump escalated the attack, stating, “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!”
Trump also suggested slashing Musk’s business interests, writing, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
The “Big Beautiful Bill,” a massive legislative package championed by Trump, promises $1.6 trillion in spending cuts and significant tax reductions. However, it has drawn criticism for potentially increasing the federal deficit, a concern Musk publicly highlighted. Musk expressed his disapproval in an interview with CBS News, stating, “I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit… it undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.”
The DOGE team, referring to the Department of Government Efficiency—an initiative led by Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to streamline federal operations—has been a point of contention. Musk’s critique suggests the bill contradicts the team’s mission to reduce government waste.
The feud’s roots trace back to policy differences, particularly over electric vehicle (EV) mandates. Trump’s decision to eliminate EV incentives, which he claims Musk was aware of for months, appears to have struck a nerve, given Musk’s role as CEO of Tesla. Trump’s Truth Social jab about terminating Musk’s government subsidies and contracts further intensifies the personal and political stakes, as SpaceX and Tesla have benefited from federal support in the past.
