Trump Seeks to Buy Peace Amid MAGA Infighting over Epstein Case with Widening Probe Net

By TRH Global Affairs Desk

NEW DELHI, July 16, 2025 – In an exclusive interview with John Solomon of Just The News, US President Donald Trump announced his support for Attorney General Pam Bondi appointing a special prosecutor to investigate the so-called “deep state,” with a specific focus on the Jeffrey Epstein case.

The statement comes amid escalating tensions within the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. Supporters of MAGA criticize Bondi for delaying the release of Epstein-related files, triggering accusations of a cover-up.

In the interview with Just The News, Trump expressed confidence in Bondi’s leadership but emphasized the need for a special prosecutor to delve into what he described as systemic corruption within the “deep state.” He explicitly included the Jeffrey Epstein case in this probe, stating, “Pam Bondi is doing a fantastic job, but we need to get to the bottom of this deep state mess. The Epstein case, it’s sordid, but there’s more to uncover. A special prosecutor can dig into it, find the truth, and make sure credible information gets out.”

Trump’s comments mark a shift from his earlier attempts to downplay the Epstein controversy, where he urged supporters to move on, calling Epstein “a guy who never dies” and dismissing the case as a distraction from priorities like voter fraud and the 2020 election. His endorsement of a special prosecutor appears to address growing unrest among his base, who have demanded transparency on Epstein’s alleged connections to powerful elites.

Epstein Files: FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino Mulls Resignation

MAGA Infighting Over Epstein Files

The Epstein case has become a flashpoint within the MAGA movement, with Bondi facing intense scrutiny for the Justice Department’s handling of the investigation. In February 2025, Bondi raised expectations by claiming an Epstein “client list” was “sitting on my desk” for review, alongside a “truckload” of evidence. However, a July 7, 2025, DOJ and FBI memo concluded there was no “incriminating client list” and confirmed Epstein’s 2019 death as a suicide, disappointing supporters who anticipated bombshell revelations.

This led to a public rift, particularly between Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who reportedly clashed with her over the memo’s release during a heated White House meeting. Sources indicate Bongino, a vocal critic of alleged government cover-ups, considered resigning, which added to speculation of internal discord. Trump’s base, including influential figures, has accused Bondi of either mismanaging the investigation or deliberately withholding information, with some calling for her resignation.

Trump’s endorsement of a special prosecutor appears to be a strategic move to placate his base while maintaining support for Bondi. The Epstein case has long been a magnet for conspiracy theories, with MAGA supporters alleging a “deep state” cover-up to protect powerful figures. The proposed special prosecutor could shift responsibility away from Bondi, allowing the administration to address MAGA concerns without admitting fault.
