Trump’s Alleged Assassin a Victim of a Set up: Report

NEW DELHI, May 30, 2025 – US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem asked “politicians and media” to tone down rhetoric against President Donald Trump. She called for “toning down the rhetoric” after repeated attempts on life of Trump.
“Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars. This threat comes not even a year after President Trump was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania and less than two weeks after former FBI Director Comey called for the President’s assassination,” said Noem in a post on X, while releasing the photogram of the alleged assassin.
She also shared a hand-written note of the alleged assassin Ramon Morales Reyes, 54. “All politicians and members of the media should take notice of these repeated attempts on President Trump’s life and tone down their rhetoric,” added Noem.
She stressed that “I will continue to take all measures necessary to ensure the protection of President Trump.” In the hand-written note, Reyes, a Mexican, claimed to have mentioned that “we are tired of this President messing up with us Mexicans.”
CNN in a news report said that Reyes “is a victim of a set up and he never wrote the note” as shared by Noem. Trump nearly survived an assassination bid during the campaigning for the November Presidential elections.
Reyes’ purported hand-written note claimed that “I’ll self-deport” after shooting “your precious President”. Trump’s key election plank was about deporting the illegal immigrants. He had accused Mexico of not doing enough to stop the flux of the illegal immigrants.
CNN in its report quoted unnamed law enforcement officials believing “the man, Ramon Morales Reyes, 54, never wrote the letter, which was sent to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office and other law enforcement agencies.”
The broadcaster claimed that “investigators suspect the letter was intended to benefit a separate individual who is currently awaiting trial in a robbery and assault case in which Reyes is a victim.”
Noem’s warning to the politicians and the media seemingly links Trump’s criticism to assassination bid on his life. With a slew of decisions, Trump has polarised the people in the US. His decisions such as deporting the “aliens (illegal immigrants)”, barring Harvard University from enrolling foreign students, mass-firing of federal employees with aims to improve government efficiency, and others have seen massive protests on the streets of the US.
