Addison Rae Drops Album Bombshell at Coachella with Arca

By S Jha

New Delhi, April 14, 2025: The Coachella Gobi Stage yesterday became the epicenter of a pop culture earthquake as Addison Rae, alongside avant-garde producer Arca, announced the release of her debut album, set for June 6, 2025.

The reveal, shared during Arca’s electrifying set, sent shockwaves through the crowd and online, with fans erupting over the news.

Rolling Stone noted Arca’s dramatic entrance as she rose from the ground, shouting to the crowd, “Where are the Venezuelan dolls at?” before diving into her set, which included a stunning performance with Rae of their collaborative track “Aquamarine / Arcamarine.”

The announcement, first teased by Rae wearing printed underwear with the date, was confirmed by posts on X, where users like @ThePopFlop

shared, “Addison Rae reveals a new release date of June 6th at Coachella during Arca’s set, for an unknown new project.”

Bollywood Trends: A New Era of Creativity and Diversity

Addison Rae’s journey to this moment is a testament to her resilience and reinvention. Rising to fame in 2019 as a TikTok sensation with over 88 million followers, Rae initially struggled to break free from her influencer label.

Her 2021 debut single “Obsessed” was met with harsh criticism, with Entertainment Weekly remarking that “execution may have gotten lost in translation,” while YouTube comments mocked her performance.

A disastrous appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, marked by obvious lip-syncing and awkward choreography, seemed to seal her fate as a failed pop experiment. Rae herself admitted to Rolling Stone in 2025 that after “Obsessed,” she considered abandoning music entirely, reflecting on the brutal public reaction.

Yet, Rae’s trajectory shifted dramatically. In 2022, leaked demos from her shelved “lost album” gained a cult following online, particularly within queer communities on TikTok and Twitter, where she was dubbed a “potential pop princess”.

This underground support prompted Rae to release her debut EP AR in August 2023, which Rolling Stone praised as “plasticky, pristine pop that online audiences ironically, and then unironically, eat up,” debuting at number 19 on the US Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.

The EP featured a collaboration with Charli XCX, who became a pivotal mentor, with Rae noting in a 2025 Rolling Stone interview, “Charli respected me and my ideas… It was the first time I really took the step on my own to be confident”.

By 2024, Rae had signed with Columbia Records and released her breakout single “Diet Pepsi,” which peaked at number 54 on the US Billboard Hot 100, earning critical acclaim for its mature, alt-pop sound. Nylon described her follow-up “Aquamarine” as “a flirty Parisian siren over a sparkling techno beat,” drawing comparisons to Madonna and Britney Spears.

Rae’s collaboration with Arca on the “Aquamarine / Arcamarine” remix, released in November 2024, was a dream fulfilled — Rae had long expressed admiration for Arca, telling Vogue in 2023, “I would love to work with Arca, obviously! I just love her sound, and I think she’s so cool”.

Though Pitchfork critiqued the remix as “a creative misalignment,” Rae’s earnest fandom and Arca’s experimental edge cemented her credibility in avant-pop circles.

Now, as Rae prepares to release her debut album, her Coachella moment with Arca underscores her transformation. The Daily Californian aptly summarized her journey in March 2025: “With a newly redefined indie-edgy, ultra-feminine, fashion-forward aesthetic, Rae’s re-establishment towers above her TikTok origins”.

From a ridiculed TikTok dancer to a Grammy-nominated artist alongside Charli XCX for their “Von Dutch” remix, Rae’s evolution is a masterclass in persistence and authenticity. As she told Rolling Stone, her album promises “hypnotic, trance-like pop songs, pulsating and lush,” designed to make people dance.

With Arca by her side and a fanbase ready to celebrate her, Addison Rae is no longer just a TikTok star — she’s a pop supernova ready to shine.
