Chandigarh, December 5, 2025 —Anjali, the daughter of Rajkumar, who works at a tea stall near the bus stand in Ambala Cantonment, has brought glory to India and Ambala by winning a silver medal in an international junior basketball competition.
The athlete, along with her family, met Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister, Anil Vij, to seek his blessings. Vij honoured her by placing the medal and encouraged her to perform even better in the future.
“Anjali’s father works at a tea shop. Yet Anjali’s dedication to sports has been such that she never looked back,” said Vij’s office in a media statement. She kept working hard continuously, it added.
One day, she got selected for a training camp held in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, where she trained for a month, after which Anjali was selected for the team.
Following this, Anjali went to participate in the Thailand championship. There were nine teams in the competition. The final match took place against Uzbekistan, and Uzbekistan emerged victorious.
“Due to this result, the team had to be satisfied with the silver medal. When asked about her plans ahead, she replied that although this is a silver medal, she now aims to win a gold medal and make India even more proud,” added the media statement.
