At least 28 pro-Assad Fighters Killed in Syria: Report

New Delhi, March 7: At least 28 fighters with allegiance to deposed Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad have been killed in fresh breakout of fights. Reports said that fierce battles broke out on coastal areas of Syria last night.

Reports attributed Syrian ruler Muhammad al-Sharaa, saying: “The time of amnesty and forgiveness has ended, and the stage of liberation and purification begins.” Subsequently, “Syrian regime forces led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched artillery strikes on Coastal Shield Brigade positions in Latakia” per reports.

HTS-led units reportedly used locally-made ‘Zu’am’ unguided artillery rockets in the attack. Videos of the fresh breakouts showed the HTS soldiers dragging bodies of killed fighters of Assad on the street.

Fights broke out in the Homs and Latakia areas. Videos showed the HTS soldiers firing indiscriminately at homes of minority Alawites. The Middle East observers also reported Turkish fighter jets entering Syrian airspace.

In Latakia areas, forces loyal to Maher al-Assad, brother of Bashar al-Assad, have rebranded as the ‘Military Council for the Liberation of Syria’. The HTS launched attacks on Assad supports in the Latakia areas. Reports stated that ‘Military Council for the Liberation of Syria’ is being led by Ghaith Suleiman Dala. He was the commander of the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division. He’s a key lieutenant of Maher.

Basher al-Assad had fled to Russia after his regime fell. Russia has given an asylum to the former Syrian ruler.

By geopolitics experts linked the fresh breakouts of fights in Syria to fast-paced developments in relations of Russia with the US. Russia and Iran had supported Assad Rule in Syria. The HTS is linked to residual groups who were previously with al-Qaeda, said reports.

US Director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard had faulted the Joe Biden regime for “allowing the al-Qaeda members to take over Syria” in her statement before the Congressional confirmation hearings.

Voice from the East in a post on X said: “The Syrian army, Jolani’s men, Allawites, Kurds, ISIS, Druze, Turkish backed militias and Shia militias are all currently fighting each other in Syria.”

It further stated that “the navy on the coast is seized. Shia militants were called to join the fight by pro-Assad militants”. “The Alawites are conquering territory, Syrian soldiers are taken hostage by anti-Regime militias, and Hezbollah joined the battlefield in the Syrian Lebanese border,” said the report.

DD Geopolitics in a post on X said that “Dalla is demanding a complete HTS withdrawal from Syria’s Alawite-majority coastal region, including Latakia and Tartous, in exchange for the unharmed release of HTS prisoners. A staunch Iranian ally, Dalla was one of Tehran’s most influential figures.”
