MUMBAI, September 15, 2025 — The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards lit up Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater on Sunday, with a night that underscored streaming’s dominance, emotional tributes, and history-making firsts. Hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze—who opened with a charity-driven comedy bit about timing acceptance speeches—the ceremony honoured shows premiering between June 2024 and May 2025.

Apple TV+ emerged as the undisputed powerhouse of the night. Its satirical comedy The Studio secured Outstanding Comedy Series, with star Seth Rogen also winning Lead Actor. Meanwhile, psychological thriller Severance swept six awards, including a first-time win for Britt Lower as Lead Actress in a Drama. Lower’s speech, thanking her character Helly Riggs, captured the evening’s mix of artistry and emotion.

Netflix made waves with Adolescence, the limited series that stunned by taking six trophies, including Outstanding Limited Series. Fifteen-year-old Owen Cooper broke records as the youngest male acting winner, while co-star Stephen Graham collected three Emmys for acting, producing, and writing, calling it “a dream night for underdogs.”

Veteran performers also had their moments. Jean Smart claimed her seventh Emmy for Hacks, tying Julia Louis-Dreyfus, while Alan Cumming celebrated The Traitors win for Outstanding Reality Competition Program. The night’s most poignant moment came when The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won Outstanding Talk Series after its cancellation—drawing a standing ovation as Colbert declared, “This feels like a collective middle finger to the suits.”

The Creative Arts Emmys, held earlier, had already set the stage with big wins for Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special, Jimmy Kimmel, and a posthumous award for Barack Obama.

As the curtain fell, confetti showered Apple TV+’s victorious teams, showing a clear message: the age of streaming-led prestige television has fully arrived. The 2025 Emmys reaffirmed that bold storytelling can still break through an industry in flux.
