Met Dept says Southwest Monsoon covers Kerana & Northeast

New Delhi, May 30: The Southwest Monsoon has set over Kerala and the Northeastern parts of the country, said the India Meteorological Department on Thursday. The MeT department has predicted an above normal Monsoon for India this year.

“Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India today, the 30th May, 2024,” said the India Meteorological Department on Thursday in a statement. The Monsoon had arrived in the coastal Kerala ahead of the schedule.

India Meteorological Department yesterday posted a number of messages to state all-time high temperatures registered in several parts of the country.

The Indian Met Department said that Delhi recorded the highest ever maximum temperature of 52.9 degree Celsius on Wednesday. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded in the Mungeshpur area in the outer parts of the national capital.

The Met Department has said that the Southwest Monsoon will cover most parts of the country by the middle of the next month. The Southwest Monsoon follows close in the heels of weeks of heatwave conditions persisting in several parts of the country.

Delhi and the national capital region saw high speed wind followed of rains yesterday. The rains brought down the maximum temperature.

The Indian Met department said that even the hill station of Solan in Himachal Pradesh recorded the highest maximum temperature of 38 degree Celsius yesterday. It added that the cities like Prayagraj, Lucknow, Bharatpur, and several others recorded their highest ever maximum temperature.

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to reach the national capital by June 25. The heatwave conditions sweeping through several states forced earlier summer holidays in schools.

Reports said that several school children fainted in Bihar schools due to high temperature.

The Bihar government while taking cognizance of the children fainting announced an immediate summer holiday. Reports also said that the people in the election rallies are also fainting due to heat wave conditions.
