New Delhi, December 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) outreach to the people in the national capital is witnessing the issue of security at forefront ahead of the Assembly elections. The people are confronting the BJP leaders by citing rising incidents of chain snatching, burglary, and others.
The BJP is undertaking ‘Nukkad Jan Sabha and Samvad’ as part of gathering people’s inputs for the party manifesto. The BJP is likely to unveil the manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections with people’s suggestions.
The BJP leader Rajiv Gambhir said that the party is preparing an inclusive manifesto. “The BJP wants to work for the people while being with the people on their issues,” said Gambhir.
Gambhir led the ‘Nukkad Jan Sabha’ in New Rajinder Nagar areas with the local RWA, (Residents welfare Association) R-block. The local residents were invited to share their concerns faced by them on a daily basis and also the solution they expected from the leaders.

“The issues and the solutions would surely find a place in the BJP manifesto,” said Gambhir. The local BJP MP, Bansuri Swaraj, during her maiden election campaign had assured the residents of New Rajinder Nagar that the RWA of the area would be empowered and they would have a complete say in their matters.
Resident TS Gambhir raised the issue of the security of senior citizens. He mentioned an incident when an elderly couple was stalked by four youths who forcible barged into their home and beat them up, resulting in the death of the elderly man and the woman being critically injured.
“The weekly Thursday market in the area has been a cause of huge traffic jam and also snatching incidents while the culprits are difficult to catch,” he said, adding that “the illegal fruits and vegetable vendors invade the place”.
The area has witnessed incidences of minor thefts of water motors, car stereos and car tyres. But some major robberies have also been reported.
Residents have alleged that their expensive cars have been stolen and in some incidents groups of goons have even tried to forcibly barge into a few homes. There are some residential buildings which are vacant as the owners have sold their properties or entered into collaborations with the builders. These homes too have been looted.
Security of Senior citizens and women were raised by many residents. Miglani, a mother of two, shared her ordeal during the BJP outreach.
“I live alone with my two kids as my husband is outside Delhi. The person staying above my floor has put audio-visual CCTV right at my entrance to completely invade my privacy and personal security,” she alleged.
Though she reported the matter to the police and also the woman cell, she alleged that she was falsely charged with stealing the camera. Miglani added” “I am living under constant watch, threat and fear. I feel unsafe and safety of my kids too is at stake.”
This incident also raises the safety concerns of the single woman who own properties and they have been blackmailed by some property dealers while builders also delay and deny their due legal payments.
Monica, from the BJP women’s wing, who was present at the meeting, assured Miglani that she would visit her residence and speak to the concerned person/ authority. Rajiv Gambhir added” “A group of people like a panchayat will come and look into the issue as a top priority.”
Naveen Kapoor, a resident and member of the RWA, pointed out three key areas of concerns. “Water scarcity even in winters is a big issue for all the residents. The quality and the quantity of the water are questionable,” Kapoor said. The colony is in existence since 1953 and the roads have been relayed a number of times. “The road levels have risen and the level of the residential buildings is lowered, causing the water seepages during rains. The Pamposh area is worst affected. The Government must have a safer plan and policy for the residents,” said Kapoor.

He stated that “the sewage lines and rain water pipes are too old and narrow, and they too add to the problem of water logging”.
The issue of the stray cows, dogs and monkey menace was also raised by some residents. They also raised the issue of beggars. Puneet Dhingra, a resident, said: “Outside Durga Mandir, there is a group of children who are begging and that must be taken care of, as in future they might land up in some other activities. Rather they should be in schools.”
Senior citizens also raised the issue of worsening conditions of roads. “The roads are full of potholes and the elders find it dangerous to walk alone. If they fall, they may get seriously injured,” added the resident.
He stressed that the “roads in the area are in a condition of urgent repair. There is a CBI enquiry underway on the complaint filed as to how within a year the roads are in this shape. The Delhi government needs to answer this,” added Rajiv Gambhir.
The J and F block residents of New Rajinder Nagar complained about a DDA site that has become a hub for group of drunkards comprising of E-Rikshaw drivers and other miscreants, making it unsafe for the residents to move out.
