New Delhi, March 26: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has bagged a project worth Rs 554.64 crore to enhance road infrastructure and connectivity in Andhra Pradesh.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a landmark road infrastructure project from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

The project, aimed at establishing a six-lane connectivity to Visakhapatnam Port Road, is valued at Rs 554.64 crore (excluding GST), marking a major step in improving transportation infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.

The project, awarded under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), will focus on upgrading the critical road link between Sabbavaram bypass (Anakapalli–Anandapuram corridor) and Sheelanagar junction (NH-516C), ensuring enhanced connectivity to Visakhapatnam Port, one of the country’s major ports.

Key Highlights of the Project:

  • Construction of a 12.66 km six-lane main road, including an elevated section of 1.596 km
  • Development of 22.26 km service roads and 93 different structures, including underpasses, culverts, minor bridges, road over bridges (ROBs), and road under bridges (RUBs)
  • A greenfield alignment to ensure a smooth and efficient road link to Visakhapatnam Port
  • The project will be completed within two years, with a 15-year operation and maintenance period.

Boost to Economic Growth and Port Connectivity

The new road infrastructure will not only ease congestion but also optimize freight movement, significantly reducing travel time to and from the port. Additionally, the service roads and underpasses will help alleviate urban congestion along the corridor, benefiting both local commuters and freight transport. The project is set to stimulate economic growth, bolstering trade, logistics, and industrial activities in the region.
