RSS to Steer BJP’s UP Campaign: What 2027 Means for 2029

Internal sabotage, RSS “indifference,” and a power struggle over Yogi Adityanath’s leadership shaped BJP’s 2022 and 2024 setbacks. Now the Sangh has stepped in to settle the fight ahead of the crucial 2027–2029 electoral cycle.

New Delhi, December 9, 2025 — The road to 2029 runs through Uttar Pradesh—and the Sangh Parivar knows it. That is why, despite the UP assembly polls being less than two years away, the RSS has already moved into campaign command mode, effectively taking over the responsibility of supervising the BJP’s 2027 strategy.
But to understand this urgency, one must go back to the political turbulence of 2022 and 2024, when a section within the BJP was “encouraged” to fuel a loaded question: Who is the real leader of the party in Uttar Pradesh?
This seemingly innocuous query unleashed a chain of internal power games that cost the BJP dearly.
How Internal Sabotage Undermined BJP in 2024
The BJP’s inability to touch the 300-mark in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls was not due to any radical shift in public sentiment. It was, instead, largely a result of:
- Internal bickering
- RSS non-cooperation
- Sabotage by factions opposed to Yogi Adityanath
An unwarranted remark by BJP president J. P. Nadda—that the party no longer needed the RSS—led to a silent revolt. RSS cadres stayed home. The electoral consequences were immediate and brutal.
Meanwhile, Congress and Samajwadi Party narratives—focusing on Muslim consolidation and cash-transfer promises—added only marginal impact. The real damage was internal.
2022 and 2024: Who Opposed Yogi?
In both elections, a powerful anti-Yogi faction worked overtime to dilute his authority. The message whispered in party corridors was that Yogi was “replaceable.”
The December 2–3 conclaves in Lucknow—attended by RSS strongman Arun Kumar and BJP strategist B. L. Santhosh—finally settled the matter:
- YOGI ADITYANATH is the undisputed face of BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
- Any talk of replacing him has been firmly shut down.
- RSS will directly guide the 2027 campaign.
For the BJP, this is unambiguously good news. A divided house cannot fight a high-stakes battle like UP.
RSS Plans Mega Hindu Sammelan in Lucknow
As part of the reset, the RSS will organise a mega Hindu Sammelan to mark its 150 years. The timing is deliberate. The Sangh intends to:
- Re-energise cadres
- Consolidate the Hindu vote
- Reassert the ideological framework that binds the BJP and RSS
This is also a clear signal that the BJP cannot afford another year of organisational drift.
Why 2027 UP Matters for 2029 India
A senior BJP insider summed it up: “If we have any problem in 2027… we could land in bigger trouble in 2029.”
UP remains the BJP’s electoral lynchpin and ideological fortress.
And the party cannot afford another 2024-like scare.
With the RSS back in command and the Yogi question settled, BJP is attempting to reset its house before the next big fight.
