New Delhi, September 15: Suspense is building up for the special session of parliament from Monday with the government apparently sharing a surface agenda to discuss 75 years of the Indian democracy, while members will move into the new building. But the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) appears to have stoked further speculation by calling for greater participation of women in all walks of life.

On the conclusion of the three days long coordination committee meeting with all the affiliates, the RSS joint general secretary Manmohan Vaidya called for enhancing women participation in all spheres. He said that all the affiliates of the RSS will work to give effect to the need for the greater representation of women in all the spheres.

The RSS has accorded top slot to the women’s participation in all walks of life in its statement. Incidentally, the RSS deliberations with the affiliates are highly secretive and little comes out in the public domain expect for brief statement shared by the saffron organization.

There has been intense speculation of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government’s intention for the special session of parliament, with a section of the BJP leaders even speculating that the Centre may push for the passage of the Constitution (108th) Amendment Bill, which calls for 33 per cent reservation of women in the legislative bodies – parliament and assemblies. The bill has not yet lapsed and it can simply be revived, the Congress had said in a letter to Modi, while demanding the passage of the legislation.

The demand for the women reservation is being made by several political parties, including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Claims in the BJP circle argue that the women reservation bill and its passage in the special session of parliament could be a political masterstroke by the Modi government in the face of the Opposition alliance seeking a one on one contest against the ruling dispensation.

“Family is the basic unit in the Indian thought. The participation of women in all walks of life is increasing, which is appreciable. In the run up to the centenary celebrations of the RSS, plans are being made for seeking the participation of women. A total of 411 events will be organized across the country to increase the participation of women,” said Vaidya, while briefing reporters in Pune after the conclusion of the coordination meeting with 36 affiliates which were represented by 243 top functionaries.
