RSS Affiliate Fumes at Glenmark Pharma for Layoff with Bouncers
Glenmark Pharma Mass Layoff Invites RSS Anger
By Raisina Correspondent
New Delhi, January 30: The mass layoff by Glenmark Pharma has invited the wrath of an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS). The pharma major this month laid off a large number of employees by allegedly employing bouncers.
“The shocking reports of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals conducting mass layoffs under the intimidating presence of bouncers set a deeply disturbing precedent in corporate India,” said Virjesh Upadhyay of the Dattopant Thengadi Foundation.
Upadhyay is also a key functionary of the RSS. He is associated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, an affiliate of the RSS.
“This blatant disregard for corporate ethics and human dignity is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” added the RSS functionary.

He stated that “employees are the backbone of any organization, and their contributions cannot be dismissed with such callousness and coercion”. Corporate layoffs have been periodically hogging the limelight with abrupt sacking in private sector having become a new norm, say industry experts.
“The use of force or intimidation in workforce management reflects not only a failure of leadership but also a complete erosion of trust and responsibility toward employees who have dedicated their time and skills to the company,” added Upadhyay.
He also stated that “at a time when India is striving to build an equitable and just work environment, such actions undermine the very principles of fair labour practices and ethical corporate governance”.
“We urge authorities and labour organizations to take cognizance of this matter and ensure that no company is allowed to treat its workforce with such indifference and cruelty,” added the RSS functionary.

Medical Dialogues in a report said that a protest had erupted after employees were abruptly laid off by Glenmark Pharma in Hyderabad. It said that the employees were handed over termination letters during a routine corporate meeting.
Employees of Glenmark Pharma had also held an all-India strike on January 23. The employees have been holding protests in different parts of the country.
“The need of the hour is dialogue, transparency, and humane handling of workforce transitions, not brute force. Companies must remember that their true strength lies in their people—not just their profits,” added Virjesh Upadhyay.
