RDA demands FIR against MLA, written security assurance, and zero-tolerance policy for violence against healthcare workers

NEW DELHI, August 21, 2025 — The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RMLH) and ABVIMS has issued a strong condemnation after a shocking incident of violence at Acharya Bhikshu Hospital in Moti Nagar, where a postgraduate resident and an intern were allegedly assaulted, verbally abused, and humiliated by a local MLA and his associates while on duty.
In a letter addressed to the Director of RML Hospital & ABVIMS and the Medical Superintendent of Acharya Bhikshu Hospital, the RDA described the attack as a “direct assault on the dignity, security, and morale of the entire medical fraternity.”
The doctors’ body has demanded:
- Institutional FIR against the MLA and his aides under the Delhi Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2008.
- Written and public apology from the MLA for the assault and humiliation.
- Strict written assurance of permanent security measures across RML and associated hospitals, including trained security staff.
- Implementation of a zero-tolerance policy for violence against healthcare workers.
The RDA warned that without a written assurance and visible implementation of these demands, resident doctors will be compelled to go on an indefinite strike, withdrawing all non-emergency medical services.
“The entire responsibility for disruption of healthcare services will rest squarely on the authorities who fail to safeguard their own doctors,” the RDA stated, calling for exemplary action and a lasting security framework instead of “temporary arrangements or verbal assurances.”
The association has forwarded its demands to the Medical Superintendent of RMLH & ABVIMS and emphasized that the time to act decisively is now.
Former Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj in a post on X said: “Resident Doctors Association has demanded strong action against Harish Khurana for assault on doctors on duty.” Khurana is the BJP MLA from the Moti Nagar Assembly constituency. He is also son of Delhi’s first Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana.
