New Delhi, December 6: The day light murder of Shrirashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi may cast a shadow in the selection of the next chief minister of Rajasthan by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Supporters of Gogamedi are holding protests across Rajasthan, demanding that as sasins be killed in encounters.

The murder has brought spotlight on the BJP’s promise during the election campaign to free Rajasthan of mafia and criminals. The BJP had raised the issue of the law-and-order breakdown in Rajasthan by citing rampant murders and rapes in the state.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said in a statement that criminals will either be in jail or leave Rajasthan. The Lok Sabha MP Mahant Balaknath has also said that Rajasthan will be made free of criminals by following the Uttar Pradesh model of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Both Shekhawat and Balaknath are in the race to become the chief minister of Rajasthan.

A large number of youth took to the streets in Jaisalmer to protest against the murder of Gogamedi at his residence in Jaipur. They burnt tires in protest against the massacre and blocked the road. The youth also observed a bandh in Jaisalmer in protest against the incident.

On Tuesday, three miscreants opened fire on Gogamedi in broad daylight. One killer was killed in retaliatory firing. Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the police should conduct a fair and speedy investigation into the murder of Gogamedi. He said that either the criminals will be in jail in or they will leave Rajasthan.

Various organizations, affiliated to Rajput community, staged demonstrations across Rajasthan. In a press conference on Tuesday night, Shekhawat said that the law and order situation in Rajasthan was a big issue during the entire five-year period of the Congress government.

“We had been shouting continuously for five years that mafia and gangsters, under the patronage of government representatives, kill people in broad daylight. Once again the outgoing government, due to its inaction, has seen another heinous murder taking place,” said Shekhawat.

He said that in view of the danger to him, Gogamedi had requested for security from the top police officials in the state. “The way the government could not provide security to Kanhaiyalal despite repeated requests, once again proved the failure of the police and inaction of the government. The killers came in broad daylight and deceitfully carried out the gruesome murder of Gogamedi, who was the voice of Hindutva,” added Shekhawat.

He condemned the police allegedly trying to give a twist to the incident and name Naveen Singh Shekhawat, who was used as a shadow and tool, as the accused. “I told the police officers in strong words that the police should not do the work of giving such twists. They should do a proper investigation,” added the minister.

He said that it has come to my notice that public representatives have also received such threats. “Newly elected MLA Manoj Singh Nyangali was not given security despite repeated requests. But now the Director General of Police said that Nyangali has been provided security personnel with automatic weapons.” Added the minister.

Shekhawat said that the question arises why security was not provided for so many days? Shekhawat said that it is unfortunate that criminals sitting in jails are running their networks. “I can say this with full responsibility that this is not possible without the connivance of the jail and policemen. These people are doing such operations sitting in jails. Even sitting outside the country, operations are being conducted,” he alleged.
