Mahakumbh: RPF to Identify Miscreants Damaging Trains Through CCTVs

New Delhi, February 13: The Railways will crackdown against miscreants who damage trains amid rush to Mahakumbh in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Videos of the people attacking and damaging trains are trending on social media platforms.
The Railways has ramped up number of trains for the benefits of passengers who are headed for Mahakumbh. Yet, videos show that the passengers with even confirmed tickets are not able to board trains due to massive crowding.
Angry passengers are attacking even Vande Bharat trains. Video clips of broken glass windows of Vande Bharat trains have surfaced amid the ongoing Mahakumbh.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Thursday said that it will file FIRs against the miscreants who damage trains. The RPF said that miscreants are being identified with the help of the CCTV footages.
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw shared images of him monitoring the train operations from the “war room” in the Railway Board. The Railways claimed that a large number of trains are being run to take passengers to Prayagraj.
“Special trains are being run from Prayagraj region with engines on both sides, as a result of which time taken in engine reversal is saved,” said the Ministry of Railways. The national transporter said that 177 trains took 7.31 lakh passengers to Mahakumbh and back to their respective destinations.
The Railways also said that 353 trains were pressed into service to take the people to Mahakumbh, ferrying over 17 lakh passengers. Mirrow Now on Tuesday reported that a group of angry passengers traveling to Mahakumbh resorted to stone pelting at Swatantrata Senani Express train at Madhubani railway station in Bihar.

It stated that the passengers miffed at not able to board the train pelted stones, shattering windows and causing significant damage. “The agitated passengers resorted to this after being unable to board the already packed train,” said the broadcaster while sharing a video clip of the incident.
The Railways dismissed “rumours” of lack of trains for Prayagraj.The Railways said that sufficient number of trains are running to carry the passengers to the Mahakumbh.
