Social Media Campaign Amplifies Aspirants’ Demands in Railways

By AMIT KUMAR

NEW DELHI, July 4, 2025 – A powerful social media campaign under the hashtag #Railway_Reform is trending at number one on X, rallying thousands of railway job aspirants across India to demand systemic changes in the railway recruitment process. Launched today at 11:00 AM, the campaign has sparked widespread support, with users calling for transparency, fairness, and efficiency in Indian Railways’ hiring practices.

The movement, spearheaded by voices like @khan__sir_patna and @RYPofficial, outlines five key demands: the introduction of a fixed railway recruitment calendar, an increase in Group D vacancies, the establishment of a railway waiting list, reforms in exam center allocation, and strict action against examination irregularities and scams. The campaign has resonated with students and job seekers, with @iamrajendraraj noting, “Rakesh Yadav sir’s #Railway_Reform initiative has garnered nationwide support from students, trending at #1 on X.” The movement highlights frustrations over limited job opportunities, opaque processes, and logistical challenges like distant exam centers, which disproportionately affect rural candidates.

Indian Railways, a major employer, has faced criticism for slow recruitment cycles and systemic issues. Reforms like AI-powered anti-bot systems for ticket booking fail to address deeper structural problems like seat scarcity.

The campaign is demanding not just digital fixes but comprehensive changes to ensure fair access to opportunities. Railways faced flaks in the past for cancelling recruitment examinations. It also came under fire for not filling Group D posts for years. Reports said that vacancies in safety works in the Railways remains at an all-time high.

Besides, Union Minister for Railways Aswhini Vaishnaw faced flaks in past couple of years over rising number of rail mishaps. Also, the promise of the government that the waiting list in train reservations will be eliminated by 2019 remains unfulfilled even after six years of the lapse of the deadline.

As the campaign gains traction, users like @MukeshBangra12 urge youth to join the fight, declaring, “This time we will not sit silent – it is a matter of rights, and we will win!” With thousands of posts flooding X, the #Railway_Reform movement is pressuring the Railway Board and authorities, including Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw, to address these long-standing issues.

The campaign’s viral momentum underscores the power of social media in amplifying public grievances. Whether this digital outcry translates into tangible policy changes remains to be seen, but for now, #Railway_Reform is a resounding call for justice and reform in India’s railway system.
