Navratna CPSE to deploy India’s indigenous train protection system across 1,067 route kilometres in Jabalpur Division under EPC mode

By TRH News Desk

New Delhi, February 10, 2026 — RailTel Corporation of India Ltd., a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a major railway safety order worth ₹454.95 crore for the implementation of the Kavach Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system on high-density routes of the West Central Railway.

The RailTel Kavach project covers 1,067 route kilometres (RKM) of the Jabalpur Division, marking a significant expansion of India’s indigenous rail safety infrastructure. The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode and is scheduled for completion within 960 days.

The scope of work includes survey, design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of trackside Kavach systems across critical sections such as Itarsi–Manikpur, Mahdeiya–Bina Malkheri–Mahadeokheri, the entire Katni complex, Bina Malkheri–Agasod, Satna–Rewa, Kaima–Sagma, and Bansapahar–Ohan sections of the Jabalpur Division.

In addition to trackside systems, RailTel will install Kavach equipment at stations, level crossing gates and Intermediate Block Signalling (IBS) locations, along with optical fibre cable (OFC) works, tower erection, and associated civil, track and electrical works.

Kavach, Indian Railways’ flagship indigenous ATP system developed under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, is designed to prevent train collisions, control over-speeding and eliminate signal passing at danger (SPAD)—significantly enhancing passenger safety and operational reliability.

RailTel is already executing two Kavach deployment projects covering 1,109 route kilometres for the East Central Railway, reinforcing its position as a key technology partner in Indian Railways’ safety modernisation drive.

Commenting on the development, Sanjai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, RailTel, said the order reflects growing confidence in RailTel’s execution capabilities. He added that Kavach represents a transformational shift for Indian Railways towards safer, smarter and technology-driven rail operations through indigenous solutions.
