New Delhi, July 1: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched vicious attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Gandhi charged Modi of spreading hatred in the name of Hindu politics.

The Congress leader asserted that the Opposition block, the Indian National Developmental and Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) will win the next Assembly elections in Gujarat. Gandhi in his maiden speech as the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused the prime minister of fanning hatred and falsehood in the country.

“The prime minister wanted to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Ayodhya (Faizabad). But after gathering the feedback of a certain defeat, the prime minister dropped the idea and went back to the Varanasi parliamentary constituency,” claimed Gandhi.

“The prime minister doesn’t represent the Hindus; the BJP doesn’t represent the Hindus; and the RSS doesn’t have the contract of the Hindus,” added Gandhi.

Modi intervened during the speech of Gandhi to allege that the Congress leader had called the Hindus violent. Gandhi shot back, saying that he was speaking of the politics of hatred of the BJP and the falsehood spread by the prime minister.

The Congress leader accused the prime minister of compromising the future of the students by watching over the irregularities in the examinations. Gandhi sought to show the pictures of religious symbols to drive home the arguments that no religion preaches hatred and violence.

Gandhi also complained to the Chair that the Sansad TV camera was not showing while he tried to show the pictures of the religious symbols. The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, cited the manual of the House to argue that showcasing placards is not allowed.

Gandhi’s speech triggered interruptions from the prime minister, and Union Ministers — Rajnath Singh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Bhupender Yadav.

After Gandhi concluded his speech, Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah sought authentication of the claims made by the Congress leader. “I seek the protection of the Chair that all claims made by the Congress leader be authenticated,” said Shah.

Afterwards, the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Jadgeep Dhankar, asked leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjuna Kharge, to authenticate his charges against the prime minister for making remarks such as ‘Mangalsutra, and others’. Kharge showed the newspaper clippings to authenticate his charges to which the Chair said that the newspaper reports may not be authentic.
