Baba Siddique Murder: Rahul Gandhi Alleges Law & Order Collapse in Maharashtra

New Delhi, October 13: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that law and order has collapsed in Maharashtra. Gandhi hit out at the Maharashtra government over the killing of former state MLA Baba Siddique.

“The tragic demise of Baba Siddique is shocking and saddening. This horrifying incident exposes the complete collapse of law and order in Maharashtra,” said Gandhi in a post on X. He also said, the government must take responsibility, and justice must prevail.

Baba Siddique was shot dead last night in Mumbai. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital. Siddique was a four-term Congress MLA. He had recently joined the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar).

The Opposition demanded that the Maharashtra Government should intervene and sack the state home minister Devendra Fadnavis. Siddique had Y-Category Security. He was also a former Maharashtra Minister.

“We are no more demanding resignation of Fadnavis. We demand that the Maharashtra Governor should intervene and remove Fadnavis from his post,” said Sanjay Rout, leader of the Shiv Sena of the Uddhav Thackeray faction.

Rout stated that Mumbai has always been known for better law and order situations. “Mumbai attracted industries because of law-and-order situations,” added Rout.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also hit out at the BJP-led government in Maharashtra. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that the reigns of the organised are spreading from the national capital to the financial capital.

The AAP has been raising the issue of the gangsters operating out in the national capital. The AAP has put out campaigns in the national capital about the extortion and killings done by the gangsters.

Former deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejaswi Yadav also hot out the BJP-led government in Maharashtra over the murder of Siddique. Yadav alleged that the law-and-order has collapsed in Maharashtra.

The murder of Siddique has come ahead of the poll date announcement for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The Election Commission is likely to announce the dates for Maharashtra Assembly elections in the next few days.

The Congress-led Opposition in Maharashtra is upbeat to wrest back power in the state. The BJP-led NDA had faced losses in the recently-held Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra.
