Rahul Gandhi Launches Congress Revamp Drive in MP while Slamming RSS-BJP’s ‘Surrender History’
By TRH News Desk
BHOPAL, June 3, 2025 – Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the RSS and BJP, accusing them of having a “history of writing surrender letters,” and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi buckled under pressure from US President Donald Trump to announce a ceasefire with Pakistan.
Speaking at the launch of the Congress’s Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan in Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi laid out a blueprint for a sweeping organisational overhaul of the party, asserting that power in the revamped Congress will be directly linked to grassroots performance, accountability, and results.
The Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, which Gandhi launched in Madhya Pradesh, marks the Congress’s latest attempt to re-energize its cadre and empower grassroots leaders. The initiative will begin with revamping the District Congress Committees, whose presidents will now have a decisive say in ticket distribution for local bodies, Assembly, and Lok Sabha elections.
“There is no point in giving responsibility without giving power,” Gandhi said, underlining that the party is looking to promote performers and genuine workers. “There are people in this room who have the ability to defeat the BJP. We will identify them, empower them, and build the new Congress around them,” he told party workers, drawing loud applause.
In a pointed reference to internal indiscipline, Gandhi said while most Congress workers are committed to the party’s values, “a few people issue absurd statements either out of frustration or to serve BJP’s agenda.” He urged the cadre to focus on the larger goal of defeating the BJP and reclaiming Congress’s space in Indian politics.
“The day you all decide to throw out the BJP, it will happen in no time,” Gandhi declared, aiming to rally the base in a state the party is eyeing for revival.
The Congress leader’s remarks and the organisational push come at a time when the party is recalibrating its strategy after recent electoral challenges and looking to position itself as a robust alternative in the run-up to future state and national elections.
“Modi could not stand up to Trump’s pressure. The moment Trump called, Modi surrendered and declared ceasefire,” Rahul told a gathering of party workers, while contrasting that with Indira Gandhi’s defiance during the 1971 Indo-Pak war despite US naval presence in the Bay of Bengal.
“Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi did not surrender. They stood their ground,” he said.
The Congress leader said that while the BJP-RSS leadership caves in under the slightest pressure, Congress draws its strength from courage and character. “I’ve known these RSS-BJP people for years. They wilt under pressure. We don’t,” he added.
Reaffirming the Congress’s commitment to conducting a caste census, Rahul accused the BJP of making empty promises under political pressure. “When I demanded caste census, Modi, Gadkari and even Mohan Bhagwat opposed it. Their latest support for it is just lip service. It will meet the same fate as the Women’s Reservation Bill — delayed endlessly,” he said, alleging that the BJP fears true social justice and prefers an “Adani-Ambani model” where wealth is concentrated in a few hands.
