PATNA, June 6, 2025 – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pressed ahead with his foray into Bihar politics, with another visit to the state on Friday to make bridges with key electoral constituencies of women and Mahadalit. The Congress leader in the last three months has made several visits to Bihar to hold outreach among the influential yet numerically less dominant social groups.
On Friday, Gandhi once again visited Bihar for key outreach, which included a meeting with a group of women. Incumbent Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar claims to have a formidable base among the women voters in Bihar.
Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing them of turning Bihar from a “land of knowledge” into the “crime capital” of India.
Addressing the Constitution Protection Conference in Rajgir, Bihar, Rahul Gandhi said, “Bihar was once known as the land of truth, justice and non-violence. It showed the path to the world. But today, people are migrating out of Bihar due to lack of jobs, and the state has now become the crime capital of the country.”
Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, Gandhi referred to former US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he made Modi “surrender” during negotiations. “Trump claimed this 11 times, but Modi remained silent each time,” Gandhi said, questioning the Prime Minister’s resolve and national standing.
On social justice, the Congress leader raised concerns over the lack of representation for Dalits, OBCs, Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), and Adivasis in key institutions. “Why is it that the top companies in India have no CEO from these communities? The same is true for the judiciary, bureaucracy, corporate sector, and even private healthcare,” he said.
Calling caste census an “X-ray of Indian society,” Gandhi underlined its necessity to expose the systemic exclusion of nearly 90% of the population from positions of power and influence. He accused the BJP of resisting an authentic caste survey because, in his words, “a real caste census would end BJP’s politics.”
Drawing a contrast between the BJP-led model and the Congress-backed Telangana model of caste survey, Gandhi said, “In the BJP model, officials frame questions behind closed doors without any representation from backward or marginalized groups. In Telangana, lakhs of people from all communities contributed, and data was collected through door-to-door surveys. It revealed the negligible presence of Dalits, Adivasis, and backwards in contracts and governance.”
He added that after Telangana’s caste census, the Chief Minister there went on to break the ceiling of 50% reservation. Gandhi vowed, “Wherever the Congress forms government, we will remove this 50% cap on reservations.”
The Congress MP also accused the Modi government of privatizing public assets to benefit select industrialists. “Modi is gifting India’s wealth to his friends like Adani and Ambani,” Gandhi alleged, citing the controversial transfer of Dharavi land in Mumbai. “This land is worth thousands of crores and home to lakhs of livelihoods. Yet, it is being handed over to Adani just because he is the Prime Minister’s friend,” he charged.
